We all know nobody has a money tree in their backyard that grows dollar bills you can pick on-demand. However, you can still get money right now if you’re dealing with an unexpected bill, home repair, medical expense, or whatever it may be that is causing you to scramble for a quick money WITHOUT having to borrow it.

With a little hustle and creativity, you can begin implementing these ideas today to quickly increase your cash flow.

Believe me, my wife and I have had to raise cash quickly without paying late fees or borrowing money. Even if you have enough money in your emergency fund to cover a surprise expense, you can quickly replenish your balance with these earning hacks as well.

Making Extra Money With Your Car or House

Most of us have either a car or a house and which means you can put each of them to work for you to make money. Here are a few of my favorites when it comes to having your car or house go to work for you!

1. Deliver Food, Drinks and Groceries to People

Have you ever thought about delivering food with DoorDash?

Doordash is a service where people can order food, drinks and groceries and have them available for delivery or pickup. The people who provide that service and get paid, are people just like yourself.

Postmates states that experienced couriers can earn up to $25 an hour and work on their own hours.

However, if you only want to deliver groceries to people, then you should also sign up for Instacart.

Instacart pays people quickly to deliver groceries from grocery store to their clients doorstep. Currently, people working with Instacart are making anywhere from $50 – $1,000 per month as a side hustle.

2. Become an Uber Driver

i need money

Uber is a great option if you have a car and like interacting with people. There are two additional reasons to consider driving for Uber:

  • Flexible hours
  • Weekly pay
  • Signup incentive for new drivers

Another reason to consider Uber is for their schedule flexibility; you drive when you have time and aren’t beholden to a specific shift or having to be available at least X hours a week.

You can find more information here to determine if driving with Uber is right for you.

3.  Deliver for Uber Eats

i need money

Uber Eats allows you earn on your own schedule by delivering food from restaurants to people.

The best thing about Uber Eats is you get to choose your wheels based on the city you live in. Depending on your city, you can deliver for Uber Eats via your car, bike or scooter. Just turn on the app in the morning before work, when you get home, or whenever you have some extra time to make money on your terms.

Also, the driver qualifications are less stringent for Uber Eats. In case you don’t meet the age and vehicle requirements to be a full-fledged Uber driver, you can be an Uber Eats driver until then.

4. Become an Airbnb Host

Become and Airbnb Host and you can start making really good income each month. There are many of benefits to being a homeowner, including the option to rent out your unused rooms for cash. But, by becoming an Airbnb host, travelers stay in your spare bedroom, basement, or second house.

Real estate is one time-tested approach to earning passive income and Airbnb can be less stressful than being a full-time landlord or trying to fix and flip houses for a profit. And, you get to interact with visitors coming from all corners of the world!

5. Rent Out Your Car

If you don’t drive your car every day or have the time to be an Uber driver, you can make some extra cash by renting your car on Turo. You can earn on average $877 a month ($10,516 a year) when your car is worth between $25,000 – $35,000. This income can easily cover your monthly insurance premium and car payment.

Considering most cars are depreciating assets that lose value every day and cost money to maintain, renting your car on Turo is one of the very few ways your car can actually make money for you.

You will receive payment within five days after a rental period ends.

6. Rent Your Spare Bedroom

You can also make money by listing your spare bedroom or a second house as an Airbnb host. An increasing number of travelers prefer staying at Airbnb because it’s typically more reasonable than most hotel rooms and it’s a more enjoyable experience. Airbnb will help you through the listing process so you can begin taking guests and putting your vacant real estate to good use.

I Need Money Now – Earning Online

7. Trade In Your Cell Phone and Put $475 in Your Pocket

i need moneyBuyback Boss is who I continue to use whenever we upgrade to a new phone because they guarantee the most money for your phone and they send same-day payments via check or PayPal.

If you have an old phone in a drawer somewhere, why not sell it today and get paid ASAP? Think of that old phone as cash sitting in your drawer that you need right now.

You can also downgrade to last year’s model (often getting the phone for a few dollars with a new contract) and sell your current phone for up to $695. Here’s a screenshot I snapped of the latest offer I received on my current used phone (iPhone 12 Pro Max) in good condition.

9. Get Paid to Play Games

Yes, you can actually get paid to play games.

Mistplay is one of the very best places to get started.

The reason is online game creators need to have their games tested by real people before they launch it out to the market.

For testing out their games on you mobile device, apps like Mistplay will pay via credits. These credits can then be cashed out in the form of different gift cards, including Visa or Amazon gift cards.

We also put together a full list of places that will pay you to play games here.

10. Teach English Online

Earn $14/hr – $22/hr teaching English online to international students. This can be the perfect side hustle opportunity if you want to work before your children wake up or after bedtime. VIPKid is one of the leading online classrooms. To get started, you need a webcam, microphone, and a love for teaching.

Most of these online teaching sites require you to have a teaching degree or prior classroom experience.

11. Save Money and Make Money with the Honey App

The Honey App will search every online coupon for you and apply the best promo code at your checkout for free. This is the first way to save money.

Also, for every 2 people you refer to Honey, they will pay you $10 in the form of popular gift cards like Amazon, Walmart and Target.

By reducing how much you spend, you won’t have to earn as much money from these side hustles. Honey makes it easy to save money when you shop online by automatically applying every known discount code to your order when you checkout.

If you shop at Amazon, Honey also compares the prices of third-party sellers to the current Amazon price to quickly spot the lowest price so you pay less for the exact same product.

With no additional effort, Honey saves you money on products you are going to purchase regardless. Now, make sure you put your savings to good use!

You can also learn about the triple savings hack with honey here.

12. Complete Mini-Online Tasks

Swagbucks is the best place to start when for getting paid to complete tasks such as reading emails, surfing the web, playing games, shopping online and using mobile apps to name a few.

BONUS: One thing I really like about Swagbucks is the option to donate to one of the many charities they work with.

Our Top Pick: The most widely known company is Swagbucks, with a Trust Pilot Rating of 4.3/5.

With Swagbucks, you earn swagbucks that can be redeemed for cash via your PayPal or through gift cards to places like Walmart, Amazon, Express, or even Bass Pro Shops.

13. Get a quick $10 with Rakuten

Rakuten sends you cash via PayPal for shopping online or in stories at places you already normally shop.

Let’s be clear, unnecessary shopping is one of the last activities you need to do if you need to get money fast, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be a smart shopper for those unavoidable purchases. My wife and I shop with Ebates and get up to 40% cash back on nearly every online purchase.

Ebates cashback arrives once a quarter via PayPal or mailed check and you can get a bonus by referring your friends to shop with Ebates too. Using Ebates is like getting paid to shop.

Also, you can get a free $10 when you create an account with Rakuten today.

14. Freelance Online with Fiverr

Freelancing online with Fiverr is another great way to make money online. With Fiverr, you use your talents online without performing manual labor. Here are some of the possible gigs you can perform:

  • Writing blog posts
  • Graphic design
  • Website design
  • Creating YouTube videos
  • Translation
  • Proofreading
  • Voice Over
  • Jingles, sound effects, and songs

Similar to Fiverr, Upwork is another great platform for aspiring freelancers.

I have been freelancing online for the past two years and it’s been an excellent source of supplemental income because you can truly work from anywhere in the world with an internet connection and get paid.

15. Proofread

If you have an eye for detail and can spot typos from a mile away when you read the news or visit a restaurant, you might find your calling as a proofreader. Several proofreading companies require prior experience, but you can also get your foot in the door at other freelancer platforms including Upwork and Fiverr.

If you are looking to perfect your craft as a proofreader and earn more money, look into Caitlin Pyle’s Proofread Anywhere program.

16. Create an Online Course

With Udemy, you can create a video course to teach others something you’re an expert in. Your video can be teaching computer coding, cooking skills, making a craft, or anything else in the Udemy course catalog. You collect a royalty for each course purchase and you can easily create new courses to continue earning residual income.

17. Transcribe Audio Recordings

Do you excel at dictation? Audio transcriptionists put sound recordings to paper. With sites like TranscribeMe, you transcribe one or two-minute recordings on a variety of topics. If you have medical or legal experience, you can make extra money transcribing these recordings that require a professional background.

18. Test Websites and Apps

Another fun way to make money online is testing websites and apps. UserTesting is one of the most popular testing platforms. Each test takes up to twenty minutes to complete and you make $10. At that rate, you make $30 an hour for testing websites!

To become a tester, you will need a computer or app that has a functioning webcam and microphone. You are given a series of tasks to complete during the test and you verbally share your thoughts as you complete each task.

19. Sell Unwanted Gift Cards

Sometimes, you don’t have to work to make money because you already have it in unwanted gift cards. Instead of letting your gift cards collect dust, sell them on Gift Card Granny.

You can sell your unused and partially used gift cards quickly with three different selling options:

  • Sell It Now
  • Name Your Price
  • Trade In

Gift Card Granny finds the best price on the top gift card marketplaces and you get paid almost instantly when a sale is made.

I have sold several gift cards online almost always within 24 hours of posting and payment is sent via PayPal within three business days. Selling gift cards is one of the quickest ways to get money fast because of the quick turnaround.

20. Sell Unused Clothing

As your fashion tastes change or your children grow older, you might find yourself with a closet full of clothes you’ll never wear again. While you can sell them at a yard sale or local consignment shop, you might also consider selling online at thredUP for men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing.

For designer clothing you wish to keep but don’t plan to wear in the near future, Rent the Runway lets you rent your high-end articles for up to one month at a time.

Finally, my wife has also had success selling on eBay and Poshmark. To increase the odds of selling your items, make sure to take plenty of pictures and consider wearing them or putting them on a mannequin so the buyer can visualize how the item fits.

21. Sell Your Old Books

You can also make a quick buck by selling your used books and textbooks that you’ll no longer read. Selling our old books is another way we boost our income each year and you can start with these three sites:

Selling is easy as you only have to enter the ISBN to receive an instant quote from Cash4Books and Bookscouter. If you like the price, you ship the books for free using their prepaid shipping label and you will be paid via PayPal once your shipment arrives and is processed.

I recommend using Bookscouter for selling your textbooks as they compare the prices of 42 buyback vendors in a single search; saving you time while finding the best buyer.

22. Sell Movies, Music, and Video Games

You can also make some extra cash by selling your old DVDs, CDs, and video games with Bonavendi. With their app, you can scan barcodes and compare the prices of 28 companies including Amazon and Best Buy.

23. Sell Old Electronics

Decluttr can be the most efficient app to sell your old electronics, smartphone, and tech gadgets. The Decluttr app scans item barcodes and you receive next-day payments via PayPal and direct deposit once Decluttr receives your shipment. College students can also receive a 10% bonus payment to earn a little extra cash.

Make Exta Money In Your Local Area

You should also consider making money within your local community. After all, not everybody wants to stare at a computer screen to make extra income. If you enjoy being on the move or have handy skills there are plenty of ways to have a gig without working a regular shift.

Also, ask your friends and family if they have any potential clients. Word of mouth referral is always one of the most effective forms of advertising.

24. Become a Handyman

If you are handy around the home and you’re capable of any of the following:

  • Home improvement
  • Mounting and installing new household devices
  • Furniture assembly
  • Moving and packing

Then it’s time to get connected with people who are in need of a Handyman. Check out Handy.com to get connected with someone in your area.

25. Mow Lawns

You can also mow lawns and offer basic landscaping services to make money to while improving curb appeal for the homeowner.  This is a great idea to boost your income in the summer months when there’s more daylight and you’re probably outside already.

If you live in a region with significant snowfall, you can get paid during all four seasons to keep lawns and driveways in tiptop shape.

26. Clean Houses

Another way to make money any month of the year is to clean houses or places of business. You can find openings on Craigslist or on Handy.com. For example, you might be able to clean vacation cabins on the weekends if you live near a touristy area. Or, cleaning services might also be looking for people to clean office buildings or industrial properties.

Depending on your personal network, you can also ask your friends and family if they know of anybody that needs help cleaning. Asking a simple question can help you find long-term clients or cleaning before somebody has company arrive to visit.

27. Donate Plasma

There’s a perpetual demand for plasma to treat rare, chronic diseases and you can make $400 each month by donating your plasma. Maybe this is something you or your friends did in college for some extra “weekend money.” You must be at least 110 pounds, at least 18-years-old in most states to donate and free of certain illnesses.

28. Get Cashback on Grocery Purchases

Each time you shop at grocery stores, you can get cashback with iBotta or Checkout51 . By activating offers and scanning your receipts, both of these apps gives you a cash reward for every redeemed offer. These cash rewards are in addition to any paper coupons you might clip, and you can potentially double your savings.

Checkout51 publishes their newest offers every Thursday. Once your account balance reaches $20, you can request a cash payment.

29. Become a TaskRabbit

i need money

There are people who need simple tasks completed but simply don’t have the time. Whether it’s putting together furniture from iKea, delivering a dresser across town, or trimming some overgrown bushes in the backyard – people will hire you.

Here are the top three places to find work using your phone:

Simply create a bio about yourself and then start looking for the task requests to pour in. I personally can tell you I utilize one of these three apps a week to find someone to do tasks for me!

30. Sell Locally on Craigslist

Bulky items aren’t cost-effective to sell online because they cost too much to ship. When that’s the case, sell locally with Craigslist or another app to sell locally. We periodically sell our unwanted items during the year and pocket 100% profit because it’s free to sell on these apps.

Beyond Craigslist, there are also dozens of other similar websites where you can sell your stuff locally as well.

31. Scan Grocery Receipts and Get $10

Earlier we told you ways to make money delivering through places like Postmates, Instacart and Uber Eats. However, there is still other money to be made by simply scanning grocery receipts.

Scanning grocery receipts for money is a real thing and there are over 20 apps that allow you to get started. While some are better than others, we recommend starting with the most popular receipts scanning app, Ibotta.

Our Top Pick: We like Ibotta because you can redeem digital offers plus your regular coupons for many food items at most supermarkets and even discount stores like Walmart and Target, and you also get a $10 sign-up bonus. When your rewards balance reaches $20, you can request PayPal payment or a gift card.

32. Recycle Scrap Material

It’s also possible to make money recycling scrap material for cash. You can get cash for some of the following items you might have in your house:

  • Loose metal (i.e., sheet metal, copper, tire rims)
  • Appliances
  • Metal cans
  • Glass bottles

For larger objects like your old washer and dryer, you will need a truck and trailer to haul your scrap off. You can look online for scrap yards and recycle-for-cash facilities near you.

33. Picking Up Dog Poop

You can also make money picking up dog poop when you don’t have the time to walk dogs or pet sit. Why? Because it only takes a few minutes to clean up a backyard compared to keeping a pet for several hours.

One man operates a full-time business picking up dog poop for a premium in the Phoenix area. You can scroll down to #73 on this side hustle list to see a video of how he turned dog poop into a full-time income.

34. Sell Used Furniture

Did you recently upgrade your living room or dining room set? If there’s still some life in your old furniture collection, get a few bucks for it. When it comes to selling furniture, you have have plenty of great options to sell your stuff.

35. Sell Your Car

Another way to raise cash quickly is to sell a car you no longer need. Even if you need to sell your fancy ride and drive a clunker instead, how else can you access $10,000+ instantly.

Especially with the the prices of used-cars at an all-time high, now may be the perfect opportunity to turn your car into well needed cash.

36. Have a Yard Sale

Decluttering helps you discover a small fortune sitting underneath your roof. The only problem is that you must sell your stuff to get cash. Having a yard sale is one of the quickest ways to sell most of your items in a weekend.

Coordinating your yard sale with your neighborhood sale is a good idea, but you should also post your sale on:

  • Craigslist
  • Facebook Marketplace
  • Your local newspaper

37. Pick Up Trash

You might find this income stream a tad bizarre, but you can make money picking up trash! Brian from Clean Lots has been doing it for thirty years and makes a six-figure income.

Business and shopping center parking lots don’t clean themselves. If you’re not afraid of getting your hands a little dirty, you can put some extra green in your wallet.

Tip: Hear Brian’s story on Episode 59 of the Money Peach Podcast.

38. Sell Your Clothes

You could do what you always do and hold a garage sale, or you can also try selling your clothes to a nearby consignment store. It’s less work and you might make more money! You can also use the same tactic for bulky household goods that are too expensive to ship to an online buyer.

Another option is to try selling your more valuable clothes online if you think you can earn more selling it yourself. Make sure you take good pictures and factor shipping prices into the equation too.

39. Flip Garage Sale Finds

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Some people might be selling their treasures at a discount because they need money now. By perusing garage sales and thrift stores, you can find bargains that can be sold online for a profit.

You can also scour the “Free” section on Craigslist for steals too. Once you figure out the average selling price of the items you plan to flip, shopping will be much easier and quicker.

You will need to find the system that works best for you to find treasures and the best places to sell them.

Every town has a different dynamic to find discounted items. One tip is to visit the thrift stores in the wealthier parts of your town as they are more likely to sell quality items at steep discounts. For example, you might be able to find designer clothing for a dollar that can be sold for $10 or more.

40. Wash Cars for Cash

You can offer to wash cars by hand by having a mobile car wash station or you can travel to a person’s house to wash the car. If you provide house calls or interior detailing, you need to provide your own cleaning supplies in addition to the car wash soap you use.

It’s also possible to offer exterior car waxing services to if you have the time and want to make some additional cash.

41. Pressure Wash Houses

Here’s one task that many homeowners neglect is pressure washing their home. Some people only pressure wash their homes when they get ready to sell it. You can advertise your services online or the old-fashioned way of knocking on doors.

To increase your chances of landing a job, take before and after pictures of a few homes that you pressure wash. Being able to show your clients visual examples of your quality work goes a long way.

42. Participate in Paid Clinical Studies

Another option for making money locally is to participate in paid medical studies. You can find studies by searching for “paid medical studies near me” to find paid opportunities. You can also ask your local college or medical center if they are aware of any opportunities too.

When medical studies are available, you may have to be experiencing certain medical conditions. You will also need to be okay with being a “medical guinea pig” and testing new medications and treatment ideas.

43. Teach Lessons

All those piano lessons or karate lessons your parents paid for can finally be put to good use. You can teach a skill one night a week or multiple nights depending on how many students you have. Whether it’s music lessons, karate, gymnastics, or another talent you can teach individually or to a group, you can advertise locally to get students.

Once you decide what you can teach, you can advertise your services on Craigslist or also leave flyers at local businesses, community centers, or the public library.

44. Babysit

Parents sometimes need a break–date night— from their children and need to hire a babysitter. Besides asking for your family and friends for gigs, you can always advertise your services on Care.com.

45. Pet Sitting and Dog Walking

Animals need loving too and you can make just as much money pet sitting when their owners leave town or work long hours. Dog walking is another daily hustle opportunity as you take the dogs on their daily walk so their owner doesn’t have to.

Believe it or not, some professional dog walkers make $100,000 a year for doing something that millions of dog owners do every day for free.

A great place to begin advertising your pet sitting and dog walking services is at Rover.

46. Shovel Snow

You can also make money during the winter shoveling driveways and sidewalks. By owning a truck and plow, you can earn more keeping parking lots clean. Because snow removal is more labor-intensive than mowing a lawn, you can earn more per property than mowing (I did at least).

47. Clean Gutters and Rake Leaves

In the fall, you can also rake leaves and clean gutters before winter sets in. Once again, these are simple tasks that most homeowners simple don’t enjoy doing and offer a decent income if you enjoy working outside.

48. Pressure Wash Houses

Most houses need to be pressure washed every two or three years to maintain that “new” look. Many homeowners either don’t own a pressure washer or don’t have the time to keep their siding clean. You can advertise your services online or simply start knocking on doors to get your first clients.

49. Paint Houses

If you own a paint sprayer, can smoothly roll paint, or know how to seamlessly cut in wall edges, painting houses is another possibility. This is one task most homeowners won’t attempt on their own, especially if they aren’t a skilled painter or they are preparing to sell their house and want a professional-quality job.

50. Collect Scrap Metal

You or your family and friends might have a garage full of old household appliances. Maybe you have acquired a small scrap metal collection from your other side hustle opportunities. Regardless of how you (legally) collect your scrap, taking your ferrous and non-ferrous metal to a local scrap yard will yield an instant payment.

Some of the best ferrous and non-ferrous metals to collect are:

  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Copper
  • Steel

You will get the best price by bringing a single, large load compared to many small loads–even if they’re the same weight. Scrap yards have an easier time selling larger quantities to buyers and reward you with a volume bonus for making their job easier.

51. Deliver Newspapers

Newspaper routes are a steady part-time income stream if you can work in the early morning hours before your regular job or classes. If there are multiple newspaper in your town, you can also apply for a route that might deliver only a few days per week–instead of all seven– if you can’t commit to delivering papers every day of the week.

52. Deliver Phone Books

A one-time, seasonal hustle is delivering phone books five days a week. You need to be at least 18-years-old and have a driver’s license to participate. PDC is one of the largest delivery companies and they might be looking for delivery people like you.

53. Cut Firewood

Many people still heat their houses with wood in the winter or need wood for summer camping trips, but they don’t have access to their own firewood source. Or, they don’t have the time to cut their own wood. Cutting and delivering firewood is another in-demand income stream.

Make Better Decisions with the Money You Have

Whether it’s getting on a budget or learning how to manage the money you currently have, you still get a raise. In fact, the biggest raise you will ever receive in your working lifetime is not when you make more money, but when you control the money you already have.

54. Get on a Budget

Most of us don’t like the word budget because it’s so restrictive, right? We think if we are on a budget, then the result is our life goes from fun to awful in a blink of an eye.

But what if a budget was simply a plan for your money. Instead of wondering where it went at the end of each month, what if you decided where it went? What would it feel like if you were in control of your money each month?

Creating a budget is easier than you may think.

Step 1: Start a free and simple budget today.

55. Ditch Your Permanent Life Insurance Policy

One of the worst “investments” an adult can make is buying permanent life insurance – aka Cash Value Policy. In most cases, the policy benefits are not worth the extra cost. Apply for a term life insurance policy instead that can be ten times cheaper than a permanent life insurance policy. Once you have your new term policy in place, cash out your cash value immediately!

56. Switch to a Credit Union

This hack won’t give you more spending money, but it helps you make better decisions with the money you have. Banks are owned by investors and customers like you and I are there to make profits for the investors. Credit unions on the other and are non-profit, and they don’t have investors — they have members. When you become a member at a credit union, you will enjoy lower fees, better rates, and a member-focus versus an investor focus.

57. Refinance Your High Interest Debt

There are much better options for you instead of high interest credit card debt or any high interest debt for that matter. Borrowers are literally saving thousands of dollars in interest payments by trading their higher interest debt for a lower interest personal loan. The nice thing is you have so many more options than you did just a few years ago and with the competition for your business, your new interest rate could be much lower than what you have now.

Check our our favorite places to start for lowering your high interest debt.

Immediately Cut Your Spending for an Instant Pay Raise

Are you ready to learn the secret on getting an immediate pay raise? Reduce your monthly spending.

For example, if you can spend $100 less each month than right now, you get an instant $1,200 indirect pay raise for the year. And, it might only take a few minutes to make a few quick changes to immediately begin saving money.

Besides using your free time to make money, you can also use these money hacks to instantly cut your spending. Another mantra you might take to hear is, “Spend less, work less.” By cutting your spending, maybe you don’t have to sacrifice your work/life balance to make extra money.

59. Save Your Spare Change

Maybe you’ve heard the tip of stashing all of your $1 bills in a savings envelope instead of keeping them into your wallet to spend on coffee and candy bars to easily save money for the future. The Acorns app makes it even easier to save and invest your spare change instead of spending it.

With each purchase, Acorns rounds up the purchase amount to the next dollar for every credit or debit card purchase. For example, a $4.25 purchase becomes $5 and the extra 75 cents is invested to build a small nest egg. You can also get extra cash investments by shopping online through Acorns retail partners too.

60. Stop Paying High Investing Fees

Each time you buy or sell a stock or ETF, your brokerage might charge up to $7 per trade. If you’re only investing small amounts of income at a time or are simply tired of paying hundreds of dollars in trade commissions each year M1 Finance is an option you should definitely give a look.

61. Trim Automatically Gets Rid of Your “Gray Charges”

Ask Trim makes it easy to “work smarter and not harder.”  For free, Trim monitors your spending, account balances, and can even reduce your monthly bill amount in the following categories:

  • Cable, cell phone, and internet
  • Car insurance

You will realize the savings the next time you get ready to pay your bills and realize there’s more money in your bank account than usual; and you never lifted a finger.

Read our full Trim Review to learn about all of Trim’s benefits to save you money.

62. Cancel Your Cable TV Subscription

The average household cable TV bill is over $120 a month and most people only watch 20 of the 100s of channels to choose from. We dumped our cable years ago and use services like Hulu for our favorite shows with SlingTV for a total of $26/month (and no contracts).

By cutting the cord, you instantly save $100 a month on cable TV by streaming live and on-demand programming over your high-speed internet. Sling TV can be watch with any flat screen TV, computer, or mobile device.

63. File Price Protection Claims for Online Orders

You can already get cashback on every online purchase when you shop with a shopping app like Ebates and you can get additional cash back if the price drops after you make the purchase.

With Paribus, you can get free price protection notifications when a retailer drops the price on recent purchases. Paribus then submits the claim on your behalf, which means you don’t have to monitor for price changes yourself and then submit it.

Disclaimer: Paribus does compensate MoneyPeach when you sign up for Paribus using the links we have provided in this post.

64. Earn Credit Card Rewards

Many people stick with debit cards because you’re still required to immediately pay for your purchases with cash. While you won’t go into credit card debt, you’re missing out on credit card rewards for cash back or travel rewards.

If you are going to use a credit card, make sure to pay them off in full so you don’t incur high interest payments. The best way to do this is to set a reminder to pay your credit cards in full once per week. If you don’t feel like paying them in full each week, then set up auto-pay so you never carry a balance.

Also, choose the best credit card rewards that fit your lifestyle. If you notice you spend most of your money at the grocery store and on fuel costs, then you may want to look at a card that gives you the highest cash back on those types of purchases.

Conversely, if you are someone who enjoys traveling, then it may be a good idea to look at cards that offer the best travel perks.

65. Stop Going Out to Eat As Often

Food is a large portion of most people’s household budget. You might be spending more on food than you must because you go out to eat all the time. In many cases, you can make the same meals at home for a fraction of the cost. For a family of four, you can easily spend at least $40 for each restaurant meal.

If you don’t think it’s possible to feed a family on a budget, visit $5 Meal Plan. You can access delicious recipes that let you feed an army for pennies.

66. Switch to a Health Sharing Plan

You may not realize it, but health insurance is one of the largest monthly expenses. Switching to an affordable health sharing plan saves my family 75% in health insurance premiums compared to traditional health insurance. Honestly, it’s probably one of the best financial moves we made when I became self-employed.

Our Top Pick: There are many great health sharing options, but our favorite is Medi-Share because of the affordability AND their own MDLive program: a FREE add on that gives you 24/7 access to a doctor visit via your smartphone, which saves you time and money on co-pays!

Summary

It doesn’t matter if you want to pursue a side hustle, sell some of your belongings, or cut spending, there are multiple ways to get money fast. We all have different skills and schedules so you pick the ideas that work best for you. No matter which ideas you pick, just choose something that puts a personal check or cash in your hand for your efforts!

The Best Side Hustle Ideas When You Need Extra Money Now https://www.moneypeach.com/side-hustle-ideas/ https://www.moneypeach.com/side-hustle-ideas/#comments Wed, 06 Jul 2022 21:10:00 +0000 https://www.moneypeach.com/?p=6029 Looking for a great side hustle idea?

Side hustles are a great way to quickly increase your income to do things like build your emergency fund, rapidly pay off debt, and save for those big purchases. When I was facing $52k in consumer debt alone, I was constantly looking for different side hustle ideas to pay off the massive debt I had created.

My Favorite Side Hustle Ideas Right Now

These first eight side hustles right now are my favorites. Right now during the COVID crisis, delivering food is the way to go to make decent money as quickly as possible. You can also do well as a virtual assistant for the same reason and make up to $50/hour.

1. Earn $17 to $20 Per Hour Delivering Food From Restaurants

Food delivery from restaurants is my favorite pick right now for side hustle ideas. Since the start of COVID, food delivery is up by over 70% compared to the same time last year. This means there is still a ton of opportunity to earn great side hustle money delivering food.

If you have a car, bike, or scooter, this is a great side hustle for anyone.

Best Food Delivery Companies
DoorDashUsually will the highest among all food delivery services
PostmatesVery similar to DoorDash. I would recommend trying both out initially.
Uber EatsMost well known service and helps if you already Drive with Uber.
Amazon FlexAmazon is slammed right now and they may be offering bonuses to get more drivers.
InstaCartThey are also extremely busy and there may be sign-up bonuses to get started.

2. Earn up to $50/hour as a Virtual Assistant

Virtual assistants have been around for years, but during the economic shutdown due to coronavirus, the industry has exploded.

Businesses are turning to virtual support, which means virtual assistants are in high demand. In fact, many small businesses (like Money Peach) need help but don’t want to bring on staff to their location, so instead they turn to virtual support.

This virtual support can be a range of things from responding to and checking email, scheduling meetings, booking travel arrangements, updating social media content — really anything you can do online.

The starting pay for virtual assistants is really good — $15 – $50 per hour.

I would recommend starting off by posting on your social channels offering services as a virtual assistant. I still can’t believe how many people don’t do this — it is such a simple way to land a job for yourself.

And here’s a pro-tip: think visualization. Make an image using a free service like Canva to create an image with a headshot and all the tasks you can help people with online. This will definitely help you stand out above the rest.

You can also listen to Episode 80 on the Money Peach Podcast where interview Kayla Sloan — my very first virtual assistant.

Think about it: if you could help a business owner spend $10,000 to make $30,000, would it be worth it to them to pay you $1,000 – $2,000 per month to do that for them?

3. Earn Money as a Freelance Writer

I have a good friend, Holly Johnson, that left her job in corporate America to pursue her passion — freelance writing.

She didn’t start off making a ton of money, but over time she created strategies to land more writing jobs, to find out what clients actually want in a writer, and how to be as efficient and profitable as possible.

Today Holly makes $225,000+ per year and if you follow her online you’ll notice something unusual — her family of 4 travels six weeks per year because she can write from anywhere in the world. Right now Holly writes for some of the largest well-known websites like Condé Naste, The Balance, Bankrate and Business Insider.

Keep in mind — you are not going to start off as a freelance writer making six figures per year. But, if you work hard you definitely can make $1,000 – $2,000 per month as a freelance writer.

You can do this the hard way by networking, pitching clients, and trying to price your services yourself. This isn’t a bad way to go, but it definitely takes a lot more effort.

Or, you could get help from a professional freelance writer. Holly has mastered her craft and she will show you exactly how to get started, how to get clients and how much to start charging your clients. She will also help you find the clients you want to write for.

In fact, many of the writers for this blog have come from Holly’s recommendation. She is the go-to resource for many bloggers looking for high-quality writers. And if they have been taught by Holly, then we all know they are high-quality.

4. Get Paid to Proofread

If you are someone (like me) that gets upset when you see your versus you’re spelled wrong or maybe the mix up between there, their and they’re — you are going to love this side hustle. Or maybe you are tired of seeing things like this in print:

Proofreading is a great side hustle (and career) that can be done from anywhere in the world. To learn more abut getting started as proofreader, check out Proofread Anywhere.

A great way to start is by learning from a professional proofreader. They will show you how to get started as a proofreader and explain how lucrative this side hustle really can be.

5. Earn Money Through a One-Page Website

One of the best decisions I made was starting a blog in 2015. This tiny little blog did not make any money that first year — it was merely a passion project about personal finance. However, the following year I made a little bit of money and every year since the blog has grown along with the income.

But you are NOT going to make a lot of money right now starting a blog.

Making money from a blog takes time and it’s not a great side hustle.

However, you definitely will increase your income by starting a one-page website for any services you are offering. Whether you’re a handyman, a Facebook ads consultant, a virtual assistant, a tutor, or any other side hustler, you must have a simple website for people to learn about you.

This is so simple and I cannot tell you how many people make the mistake of not taking the time to create a one page website.

How to Earn more money with your Own Website

If you’re looking to do any of the side hustles mentioned in this post, you’re going to want to create a simple website. Don’t worry — it’s extremely simple.

Let’s say for example you’re looking to get hired as a virtual assistant. Wouldn’t it be nice if someone could go online and read your “About Me” page, have the ability to contact you via your “Contact Me” page and even hire you through your “Work With Me” page?

No matter what business or side hustle you want to create, having a simple website will boost your credibility. Ask yourself this: if two people are offering the same exact services but only one of them has a website for you to learn more about, who are you more likely to hire?

If you’re looking for a simple way to get started building a quick website, I created a free step-by-step guide to help you get started. This guide will allow you to build your website in 15 – 20 minutes and for just a few dollars.

6. How to Earn Money with Affiliate Marketing

If you’re willing to put in the time and effort by starting a blog, then affiliate marketing can be a great side hustle. But remember, it takes time and effort.

With that said, when I created this blog in the beginning, I didn’t know anything about affiliate marketing. I just enjoyed blogging about how to create a budget, save more money, and pay off debt. That was until someone told me my blog could be generating thousands of dollars per month if I added in affiliate marketing.

Admittedly, I was super skeptical but I decided to give it a try.

I didn’t know what to do or how to get started, so I reached out to a blogging friend who started Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing . Within 60 days I increased the monthly income from my tiny little blog by $1,705 (and became one of her testimonies)

Yes, I was more than just a little shocked and since then I have told everyone I know about her program because it really changed my life. I don’t know about you, but $1,705 extra per month for making some tweaks to my blog is life-changing.

Keep in mind, making money from affiliate marketing takes time. Yes, you can make a lot of money from affiliate marketing, but in the beginning I would estimate only a few hundred dollars per month.

“I started my blog in March 2015 and didn’t even know what affiliate marketing meant. And….I didn’t do much about it. I think my largest month was around $500 last year and then died down to sometimes only a few bucks per month. It wasn’t my focus, but I didn’t realize I was leaving money on the table, meaning I was losing money every month! I decided to enroll in Michelle’s course, and I quickly noticed I didn’t know a thing when it came to true Affiliate Marketing! No wonder it just ‘wasn’t working for me’…

Results from the first 60 days of taking the course:

I am still nowhere close to implementing everything I’ve learned [from the course], but….My August affiliate income was $1,792.26.

That’s a $1,705 increase since I became a student of Making Sense of Affiliate Marketing. So, my investment in the class was worth it!”

7. Earn up to $22/hour Tutoring Online

Maybe you’ve never heard of VIPKID, but it’s actually a household name brand in China. Currently, there are over 70,000 American teachers teaching English as a second language to over 600,000 children in China. The current pay for this reliable side hustle is up to $22/hour.

Before you get started, beware there are some barriers to entry to partner with VIPKID. First, they do require you to have a Bachelor’s degree from either the USA or Canada, and second they ask for “some teaching experience”. However, from a teacher I have spoke with from VIPKID, she said “teaching” doesn’t have to mean teaching in a traditional educational setting.

The lessons are 30 minutes long and you will be paid up to $11 for each 30-minute lesson. One thing to note is since you are teaching across the globe in a live setting, you will be teaching at odd hours (late at night or first thing in the morning). However, the teacher I spoke to said it was fun, rewarding, and it paid well for being able to stay at home and teach from her laptop in her kitchen.

Live in the U.S. or U.K. and hold a bachelor’s degree? You can earn up to $22/hr plus bonuses to teach kids English online from the comfort of home.

8. Earn $600/month Renting Out Baby Equipment

I really love this side hustle right now because the feedback from readers has been extremely positive.

Imagine you’re getting ready to take a vacation with your small children and you start thinking about how you’re going the pack the stroller, the pack ‘n plays, and the crib. Then you start thinking about the car seats, toys, books, high chairs, carriers, noise machines, baby baths, bouncy seats, monitors, jumpers and every other little thing!

Today, that problem solved thanks to BabyQuip.

In 2016, a few parents got together and created BabyQuip to provide families with clean, safe and reliable baby equipment for rent. Since then there have been over 30,000 transactions and guess where the baby equipment is rented from?

If you currently have baby equipment stored at home, you can start renting it out in the over 500 cities across the US and Canada. To start earning money as a BabyQuip Quality Provider you need to apply online and once accepted you’ll have an interview. If you both feel it’s a good match, you will be onboarded so you know how to run your baby gear rental business.

The average BabyQuip Quality Provider makes $600/month, with some providers as high as $5,000 per month. Also, once you’re accepted as provider, you will be added to the community where you can meet other QPs and learn best practices to make the most money.

9. Make $1,000 to $2,000 Per Month Running Facebook Ads

If you were a business owner, would you pay $100 to make $300? What about spending $10,000 to make $30,000?

This is why today over 7 million advertisers are using Facebook ads and these businesses are spending on average between $2,400 and $9,600 on Facebook ads each year. And with over 30 million small businesses in the U.S. alone, there is huge opportunity for people to create a lot of revenue creating Facebook ads for small businesses.

Bobby Hoyt from Laptop Empires has the best program for teaching people how to run Facebook Ads and he really will show you to earn $1,000 – $2,000 per month per client as their Facebook ads manager.

Also, as I mentioned earlier this is not a get-rich-quick scheme. This is going to take 6-8 weeks if you’re moving quickly to not only learn how to do Facebook ads but how to get clients as well. Bobby will show you how, but you have to do the work. If you’re not willing to do the work, then I would move onto the next side hustle.

This may side hustle is not one that you will make money with right away. However, you will make the most money than any other side hustle on this post when you get your first client running Facebook Ads for small and local businesses.

The Best Side Hustle Ideas That Put Your “Stuff” to Work

Another great side hustle idea are the ones where your stuff actually makes money for you.

10. Earn $2,000 Per year Renting Out Your RV

Rent your RV out like a VRBO or Airbnb with Outdoorsy.

If you’re currently an RV owner, did you know over 17 million RVs sit unused for 350 days per year?

Whether you own a large RV, a fifth-wheel, a folding trailer, a camper van or anything similar, there is plenty of opportunity to turn a profit with your RV instead of it sitting idle.

In fact, many RV owners have been renting out their campers for years online ads or through word-of-mouth referrals. However, there is also a lot of risk and unanswered questions when you decide to rent out your RV by yourself.

Now, more people are turning to the largest and safest online marketplace for renting out your RV — Outdoorsy. You can think of Outdoorsy like the Airbnb for your RV.

Outdoorsy also provides plenty of safeguards to protect you and your RV. For starters, all potential renters of your RV have to pass an extensive driving history check before they can request your RV. Also, Outdoorsy provide you the owner $1 million in liability insurance and will also cover any theft or damage.

In addition to both liability insurance and the background check, Outdoorsy offers 24/7 roadside assistance which really turns your RV rental into a fully passive income stream. I know I mentioned above you can make $1,000 – $1,500 per month, however Outdoorsy does state on their website you can “Earn up to $50,000 a year renting your RV to people you trust”.

Since I don’t personally own an RV, I did do some research and found that since their start date in 2014, Outdoorsy has facilitated over 800,000 RV trips and has a Trustpilot rating with a 4.4 out of 5.

How it works:

First you will create a free account with Outdoorsy. Once your account is created, you will then create a profile for your RV. Outdoorsy walks you through the process of creating your profile to include things like the year/make/model of your RV, where it’s located, a detailed description, pictures, list of amenities, and your rules for renters.

Next you set your daily/weekly rental rate and post it to the site. Once someone rents your RV, Outdoorsy will release the funds to you via direct deposit within 24 hours of the start of the rental.

11. Earn $700/month Renting Out Your Car

Turo is a peer-to-peer car sharing company where you can generate monthly revenue by renting out your car. With over 10 million users and 350,000 vehicles listed, Turo is a safe and reliable way to turn your car into a monthly revenue stream. Currently Turo is offered in US, Canada, the UK, and Germany.

How it works:

To get started you can list your vehicle (any make and model) for free. This process takes about 10 minutes and there are no sign-up fees or monthly charges for signing up.

Next, you can set your own daily price and rental rules for your car. Turo does have recommendations for you if you don’t know, but your pricing and rules for the rental are completely up to you.

Once a guest books a rental with your car, you’ll specify how your guest receives the car and will also “check in” your guest through the Turo App. Within three days after your car is returned and the trip is completed, you will get paid via direct deposit.

Turo takes a commission on the transaction, however in 2019 the average Turo host made $706 per month when they completed 12 trips per year.

The amount of days you would like to rent out your car is completely up to you and you’re also covered up to $1 million liability insurance through a partnership with Turo and Liberty Mutual.

12. Earn $1,000 to $2,000 Renting Out Your Room

Just about everyone has stayed in an Airbnb or at least knows someone who has. But, have you ever thought about making money with Airbnb?

This side hustle pays quite a bit because of what is at stake — you’re renting out a room in your house or your renting out your entire house. And, in some situations you may even be living with your guests during their stay. Whichever way you choose, this is still one of the most lucrative side hustles on the market.

How it works:

It’s free to list your space on Airbnb ad there are no memberships dues, sign-up fees, or any random charges. Instead, Airbnb earns a 3% host service fee per booking.

Once you’re space is listed, you can choose to make it available whenever you want. You also get to set the rules for your guests such as min/max number of nights and how far in advance they can book. As far as pricing, Airbnb has recommendations for you but ultimately you get to set the price you feel most comfortable with, including your cleaning fee, seasonal fees, or any other pricing options you think you may need.

Once your space is booked, Airbnb will usually pay you within 24 hours after the guest is scheduled to arrive via Paypal, direct deposit, or other methods if available. Airbnb also provides you with $1 million property damage insurance, $1 million in liability insurance and 24/7 customer support.

Again, I totally understand that renting out your room, house, or even living with a guest is a pretty big deal. However, you really can earn $1,000 – $2,000 this month and does not take much to get started. No marketing costs, creating your ow website or anything life that. Simply sign up for free, list your space, and start making really good money this month.

13. Earn $500 to $1,000 Per Month Renting Out Space

Peerspace is platform that allows hosts to rent their space for meetings, events, film and photo shoots, or anything else you can think of.

People are always looking for space to rent out for birthday parties, baby showers, film shoots, networking events, workshops, and a whole slew of other reasons that require space.

Renting out small spaces by the hour has become increasingly popular over the past few years, and now there is even a dedicated marketplace for it. And for those who aren’t ready to rent out a room in their home quite yet, maybe renting out your space for a few hours will work out better.

Whether you want to rent a room, your backyard, your office or meeting room, your garage, or any other space you can think of, the opportunity is there. And Peerspace is the leader when it comes to peer-to-peer space rental.

How it Works:

Once you set up a free account with Peerspace, you can create your listing, the rules for your space, the pricing, and the availability. Then you simply list your space and it will become available to whoever is looking for your space within the Peerspace marketplace.

Just like Airbnb, Turo, and Outdoorsy, Peerspace protects you with $1 million in liability insurance and you can also list your space absolutely for free. Once someone rents out your space through their dashboard, you will receive payment from Peerspace, minus a 15% commission Peerspace takes.

Most of the spaces I found during a quick search are in the $50 – $100/hour with a minimum of 2 hours. If you are willing to open up your space just a few times per month, you could easily generate $500 – $1,000 extra as a nice little side hustle.

14. Earn $50/month Renting Your Driveway

A college student at Arizona State University identified a problem and created the solution.

Parking near the campus was difficult and the homeowners who lived near the campus had a major problem with illegal parking on the streets. Jonathan Barkl, a 20-year-old college student at the time wondered if you could take the idea of Airbnb and apply it to your own driveway.

Air Garage is a service that allows you to rent out your driveway for parking in three simple steps. Step one is Air Garage installs a free sign that instructs the public they can pay to park in your driveway.

Step two is for you to install and get set up with their online dashboard so you can manage your driveway parking status. And step three is your driveway is available for rent and you start collecting payments.

If your curious to learn more, I actually had the Air Garage Founder and CEO on the Money Peach podcast.

The Best Side Hustle Ideas That Pay Quickly

These side hustles will not generate the income you can generate with the above list, but they are something you can do right away and get paid quickly.

15. Share Your Opinion Online

Yup, you can actually generate side income by simply giving your opinion via online surveys. It’s not going to make you rich tomorrow, but it’s still a great way to generate extra income during your down time.

I like to do surveys when I’m literally doing nothing else. For example, if I am in the doctor’s office waiting room, or my estimated wait time is 21 minutes or even if I’m riding the train — I may as well make some extra money.

There are also a ton of survey sites out there and I’ll be completely honest — 95% of them aren’t that great. But, there are a few good ones out there that actually have really good reviews.

The top two I recommend are both Survey Junkie and Swagbucks.

Survey Junkie has you answer surveys online (desktop or mobile) and you can earn points that can be exchanged for either cash or gift cards. For every 1,000 points you earn, you can trade them in for the $10 equivalent. Survey Junkie has over 14,000 reviews with a Trustpilot score of 4.5 out of 5 — the highest rating among all survey sites.

Swagbucks is another great choice because you earn in other ways beyond just answering online surveys. You can earn when you shop online, answer surveys, watch videos, test out new offers from top brands, search the web, play online games, or use their mobile app. Similar to most other survey sites, you can redeem points for cash or gift cards. Since 2008, Swagbucks has paid out over $400 million and sends out over 7,000 gift cards per day.

16. Inbox Dollars

Another option for a quick-money-side hustle is Inbox Dollars.

Inbox Dollars is a rewards club that pays you in cash for completing a variety of online activities. This can include searching the internet, filling out surveys, printing off coupons, and shopping online. You’re not going to make a ton of money or anything like that, but If you are already doing these things, it makes sense to get paid for it too.

17. Earn $3 to $100 Doing Random Tasks

Download the free Gigwalking App from Gigwalk and then find “gigs” in your neighborhood that companies are willing to pay you for. Can you check out the price of milk in a certain store for $6 or snap a pic of a storefront for $5 on the way to work? Note: You will start off with the low-paying jobs in the beginning, but prove yourself and you will start getting offered the higher-paying jobs soon enough.

18. Earn $10 to $12 Per Hour as a Rideshare Driver

This is an incredibly popular side hustle and just about everyone has been in an Uber or Lyft before.

To get started, some minimum requirements you need are a car, a smartphone, and the Uber or Lyft app. You become available to drive as soon as you complete the activation process and then you are ready to start earning money. Fares are paid out weekly or up to 5X a day when you register for Instant Pay with your debit card!

The nice part about becoming a rideshare driver is it’s truly on-demand. You can work only when you want and you can drive as much or as little as you’d like. However, from the rideshare drives I have interviewed, the money is good, but not great.

Uber vs Lyft
UberBeen around the longest and more widely used.
LyftDrivers report getting paid slightly more when driving with Lyft.

19. Fiverr

Fiverr is a platform where you can sell your products and services starting at $5 per gig. After you have a few $5 gigs under your belt, you can start increasing how much you charge. Here at Money Peach, I hire people from Fiverr all the time. Just recently, we found someone for a quick logo design and another to transcribe some videos we created.

Also, the Fiverr platform does take 20% from each gig. Therefore, if you do a $5 gig, you will take home $4 per gig. However, if you can complete 3-4 gigs in an hour, your hourly rate could start at $16 – $20 per hour.

This is a very popular side hustle for good reason, but keep in mind you may not make a of money when you first start out. It may not feel worth it in the beginning because you will need to do small jobs to build up your rating before you can start charging more.

The Referral Program Side Hustle Ideas

These sites mentioned below are not to be used as a source of income, but rather a simple way to make a few bucks here and there. Most of them mentioned are ways to save money online, however they do offer gift cards for referring your friends. Again, not a big money-maker but more of a reminder you can still make a few bucks if you use any of these sits.

20. Rakuten (Formerly Ebates)

Rakuten is a company that has partnered with over 2,000 online companies to form an affiliate relationship with each of them. An affiliate relationship simply means Rakuten and each online company have created a partnership where Rakuten will refer you or I to buy something from them, and that company then sends Rakuten a thank-you referral.

The good news: Rakuten then splits the thank-you referral with you, and you earn  cash back. And when you refer your friends to Rakuten, you will get a referral commission. As of this writing, I have personally made $1098.48 since I joined Rakuten. Ninety-five percent of that came from referrals.

Even if you don’t plan on sharing your referral link, you still should sign up for Rakuten (free) and save money on all of your online purchases.

21. Honey Browser Extension

Honey works the same exact way as Rakuten — a refer-a-friend program.

Recently purchased by PayPal, Honey is a free tool that will search for online coupons and apply them to your online shopping cart to make sure you are saving the most money. Instead of searching for coupons one at-a-time and applying them individually, Honey does all of this for you in the matter of seconds.

Not only will you save money, but you can also make a little bit of money with their refer-a-friend program. For anyone you refer to the app, Honey will send you $5 as soon as they purchase something via the app up to $1,000. I have personally made over $3,000 with their referral program. You max out at $1,000 and then you need to create a new Honey Account and share out your new referral link.

The Create and Sell Side Hustle Ideas

Selling your stuff online is a great way to earn money quickly. Here are some of the go-to places for selling stuff online.

22. Offer Up

OfferUp lets you list and sell for free. It’s more of a “you’re on your own” site like Craigslist and LetGo, but is fairly popular and is well-organized. It also looks like OfferUp is surpassing Craigslist as the go-to place to sell your stuff locally.

23. Amazon

Selling on Amazon is almost identical as selling on eBay in terms of fees and ease of use. However, sometimes items that don’t sell as well on eBay do better on Amazon and vice versa. Either way, it is a side hustle worth looking at if you can buy for cheap and resell for a higher price.

24. eBook Publishing

Make money by writing your own book and self publishing it on Amazon for free. There are different options available for how your can price your book and earn income from the sale of your book in the Amazon store. Questions about self publishing your own book?

25. Etsy

Instead of having to open up your brick and mortar store, sell your creations on Etsy. Whether you make clothing, crafts, baby toys, or jewelry, you can open up your own store at Etsy. I have a friend selling her awesome clothing line on Etsy and it brings in a very nice income for the family. This is another great side hustle, but don’t expect instant results. You may need to be patient for this one.

26. Craigslist

We all know you can buy and sell stuff on Craigslist, but have you ever thought about offering a service you can provide. If providing a service isn’t your thing, you can scan Craigslist for great deals and then later resell items for a profit. This takes persistence and patience, but I have a friend who went from a $4k truck to a $24k in truck in 18 months by flipping cars from Craigslist.

There are also many other sites competing with Craigslist and you may have better exposure by posting on these sites like Craigslist.

27. Zazzle

Make money on Zazzle as a designer by selling your artwork on different products or you can actually make and manufacture the products for sale. I have a friend who takes old dry wood and paints slogans on them. She needs to sell them on Zazzle; she could create a very quick and profitable side hustle.

28. eBay

You can have your own store up in only a few minutes at eBay. To start, you must have a seller account, must be verified through PayPal. 68. Sell Drinks

Do you ever see those people standing on the corner, wearing headphones, oblivious to the entire world around them, and flipping signs in the air? They are making money and you can too. What about sign holder? Well, maybe you’re not the spinning type…

Takeaway on All These Side Hustle Ideas

Remember, a side hustle is a just that — a way to make extra money on the side.

You’re not going to get rich doing any of these. You may one day generate a lot income from a side hustle, but don’t expect that to be the norm in the beginning. But, if you’re looking to make $50, $100, $1,000 or even $2,000 extra per month, then the side hustles mentioned can help you get there.

  • Work means work. Whichever side hustles you choose will take effort on your part.
  • Find something you are already good at (or enjoy) and start there.
  • Determine how much money you need and then work backwards from there. This will help you determine which side hustle will be best for your goals.
  • The side hustles that pay more require more time and effort. The opposite is also true.
  • No more than three side hustles at at time.
  • Not all side hustles are glorious, but the least attractive side hustles often pay the most.
  • If you come across a side hustle that says “get-rich-quick” — go the the next one. It’s just not true.
  • Commit, commit, commit. The biggest mistake you will make is giving up on your side hustle too early.

Now I need your help…

If there are any other side hustles that you have done and have actually made money with, I would love to know about them. Simply leave a comment below and let me know what you did and how much extra you money you were able to generate.

I’m glad you found this post and good luck in your next side hustle adventure friend.

How to Get the Most Money Selling Your Used Appliances https://www.moneypeach.com/sell-used-appliances-for-cash-near-me/ https://www.moneypeach.com/sell-used-appliances-for-cash-near-me/#comments Wed, 06 Jul 2022 18:45:42 +0000 https://www.moneypeach.com/?p=9006 Need to sell your used appliances because you’re upgrading your washer, dryer or refrigerator?

Whether you are upgrading or recently moved into a new house there are plenty of ways to sell your used appliances for cash. In fact, some people make great side income, or even a full-time job by buying and selling at trade shows, flea markets, and online.

Keep reading to learn about all the other places who buy used appliances near you, and how to create epic listings that sell your items quickly.

9 Unique Ways to Sell Used Appliances Near You (For Cash)

Here are the top 9 places to start selling your used appliances. The ones at towards the top of this list will generate more cash for a little more work. As you move your way down, the effort becomes easier and the sale amount usually is smaller.

1. Sell Your Appliances Using Facebook Marketplace

In Facebook’s attempt to take over the world you can also find buyers using their version of Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace to sell items. This is a great way to let your friends and connections know that you are selling your appliances.

The main benefit of using Facebook Marketplace over Craigslist is the trust factor. If you’re friends with someone on Facebook you automatically trust the individual more than a stranger on Craigslist.

Plus, Facebook Marketplace makes it easy to share your free listing with others. If you have a good appliance, people can choose to share with their networks as well as increasing your audience dramatically. Make sure to ask friends and family to share with others if you choose to list on Facebook Marketplace.

You can use the same description from your Craigslist ad and choose to edit contact information as well. This is a great way to sell your appliance quickly and easily.

How to Get Started Selling with Facebook Marketplace

To list and sell your appliances on Facebook Marketplace use these simple steps:

  1. From your mobile app click on the shop icon (looks like a house) at the bottom of the app.
  2. Upload the photos that you already used for Craigslist. There is no limit and remember that the more pictures the higher chance of converting viewers into buyers.
  3. Upload your description and change any terms and contact information.
  4. Add your price. You can use the same as Craigslist or choose to edit.
  5. Once sold, mark your item as sold to remove it from the marketplace.

That’s it! Plus, there are no transaction or listing fees as well. Facebook marketplace is a great option to sell your appliances quickly and easily.

2. Sell to Local Appliance Stores

If you don’t want to list online or deal with setting up a garage sale you can also sell your appliances to a local appliance store. Often times they have a used section as well as brand new appliances.

Make sure to call ahead and do some research to see what kind of pricing they offer. Also, specify if they will pick up and what type of charge it will cost. Sometimes, they will have it be a flat fee which is a great option if you have more than one item to sell.

3. Check with Resellers

Along with local appliance stores you can also sell items to local resellers. Check on Craigslist to see if you can find any. Typically, this will yield the lowest return as they are also trying to make a profit. But, if you need cash quick this is another viable option.

4. Have a Garage Sale

Garage sales are more old school than listing online but still a great way to sell your appliances for cash! There are still people who love Garage Sales and even apps like Varagesale and Yard Sale Treasure Map that can help you find garage sales near you!

A lot of buyers that visit garage sales are an older demographic who tend to enjoy the human interaction and seeing the items in person. Make sure you have the items in great condition and available to be picked up immediately.

To attract buyers to your garage sale make sure to list the garage sale on Craigslist. In the listing you can include several photos of the main items and list the others. Entice buyers to come to your yard sale by including your best photos and a short description.

If you want to spend a few dollars on advertising you can also do that as well. Put signs up around your neighborhood and let friends know on Facebook. The more visibility the more likely you are to sell the appliance quickly!

5. Sell to Scrap Metal Recyclers

Depending on where you live in the United States selling your appliances to a scrap metal recycler is another great option. But this option won’t be as easy as some of the others listed.

Not only do you need to transport the item you need to take it apart as they only will accept certain parts for each appliance. They tend to pay per pound but don’t accept just anything.

Make sure to contact several scrap metal recyclers if possible as they can pay different amounts. Plus, some of these facilities won’t accept scrap metal so make sure to do your homework before loading up your appliances and heading over.

6. Recycle For a Reward

18 of the 50 states allow you sell your appliances and make money via recycling. While the amount isn’t much, usually ranging from $25-$100 this is an option that is good for the environment and your wallet.

7. Use 1-800-GOT-JUNK

While I can’t say I’ve used 1-800-GOT-JUNK it’s another great option with minimal stress to get rid of unwanted appliances. You can schedule a no-obligation appointment online or contact them via phone.

They will come to your home and give you an estimate based on everything they will remove. Their prices are based on the total volume of how much your “junk” is taking in the truck. They will help you move the item, regardless of where it is in your home, and load into their truck.

They donate or recycle as much as possible and will charge you a one-time fee. If there isn’t a franchise close to you there might be a local establishment similar to 1-800-GOT-JUNK to help you as well.

8. Have Local Stores Pickup Your Appliances

If you don’t have a vehicle or don’t want to rent one, you can also choose to have a local store pickup your appliance. In the past, they used to actually pay you but this isn’t the case anymore.

Here are some of the common stores found nationwide that can help you get rid of your appliances.

Best Buy

Best Buy is of the last big box stores still surviving and will help you with your appliances. If you are buying new ones through them the fee is $14.99 to haul out your old. Well worth the price and hassle!

But, if you want them to remove additional items that you aren’t replacing there is another $99 fee as well.

Lowe’s

If you are replacing your appliances with Lowe’s your options are more limited than others on this list. While it’s said to vary by location is appears online that they only remove if you use a Lowe’s Business Credit account.

Make sure to contact them directly as you might be able to work out some sort of arrangement if you have one of their store cards or a frequent customer.

Sears

Sears is a dying brand that only has 500 locations nationwide but can help you with your appliances. They will only help if you are getting ones replaced and you have them uninstalled and ready to go for a one-time fee of $25. They will not come into your home, uninstall or help you move them.

Home Depot

Home Depot does offer to help you get rid of old appliances if you are replacing old ones. Make sure to contact your local store as some review sites have said that each location has a different policy. If you’re in store make sure to double check and negotiate to ensure you aren’t responsible for removing old appliances.

Costco

If you use their complete installation package Costco will remove and haul away your old appliances when replacing a similar one. This is 100% free service!

9. Donate Large Appliances

If you want to simply get rid of your appliances and aren’t worried about the cash, you can also choose to donate them as well. Not only will this good deed help others in need it can be used as a tax write off in the future.

Local stores and charities can sometimes pickup as well. If you have other things you’d like to donate you can also add as well.

Check out these sites to see if there are places locally:

  • Salvation Army: Salvation Army will come to you directly and not charge anything for your donation. Make sure you receive a donation valuation guide for tax purposes as well.
  • Habitat For Humanity: Like Salvation Army, they do not charge anything and can help you get rid of your biggest appliances.
  • Goodwill: Very similar to the ones above, Goodwill offers free pickup for your large appliances that you wish to donate.
  • St. Vincent De Paul: Contact the nearest Catholic Church in your community and ask if they have a Society of St. Vincent de Paul Conference in their parish or know of one in your area for a free pickup and donation.

9 Ways to Create an Epic Listing That Will Sell Your Appliance

The most common place to sell used appliances, or anything locally, is still Craigslist. But with Facebook Marketplace and apps like Offer Up, it doesn’t hurt to list them in several places as well.

In high school I started selling items on eBay and Craigslist for extra money and got pretty good at it. I found there were certain things that helped each listing sell consistently.

Here are nine steps to create a listing to sell your appliances or anything else for that matter.

Step 1. Use a Catch Worthy Title

Like blogging or writing anything online, your title can make or break your listing. If you have a title like “ancient dishwasher” no one is going to want to buy it. Instead, you want to have something like “ Like-New dishwasher, with X & X features. “ That type of title will entice people to open up the listing.

Step 2. Create an Epic Description

Once you get them to click on the listing you need to have a great description and pictures. The description can make or break your ability to actually sell the appliance. Most importantly, your description needs to be 100% honest and accurate. Otherwise, it makes for a very awkward exchange when you meet the buyer in person.

You want to be 100% accurate with the condition of the appliance! If there are dents, scuffs, marks, or anything that is not working make sure to let them know. Talk about the use of the appliance, if anything doesn’t work, upgrades you’ve done and why you are choosing to sell the item.

Often times people are skeptical if you are pricing a good item at a price that seems too good to be true. Be honest about why you are selling this item. Are you upgrading? Moving? Or did it come with the house when you moved in? The more details the better the potential buyer will feel.

Lastly, you want the description to be informative and helpful to the potential buyer. A great idea is to try and find the model online and copy and paste the description. This way you can make sure it includes all the features, benefits, and exact size specifications.

Step 3. Link to Helpful Resources

The more expensive the appliance the more research people will do online to make sure they are getting a good deal. If possible, spend a few minutes researching the make and model of each appliance.

Try to find reviews, comparisons, and even manufacturer information to include these links within your description. Make it easy for buyers to say yes!

Step 4. Take Amazing Pictures of Your Item

Isn’t it awful when you look at something online and when you show up it’s totally different in person? Whether it’s a car, apartment, or something like this on Craigslist, it’s incredibly disappointing and generally a waste of time. Don’t be this person by providing fake pictures.

Instead, take amazing pictures of your item to be honest with potential buyers and show off the item. If you can find the model online, include one or two stock photos and five or more photos of the actual item.

You don’t need to get a professional camera as smartphones are better than ever. If you have an iPhone X with portrait mode use that as well. Make sure to have plenty of lighting and a good clean background. You don’t want a slightly used washer next to a bunch of junk in your garage. Make the environment look appealing for your potential buyers.

If you want to be an overachiever and increase your odds of making the sale, you can also film a short video of the appliance working. This can be one or two minutes and be uploaded to Youtube in the same amount of time. Include the link in the description to give people more confidence that the item will work as described!

Step 5. Price Your Appliance Competitively

With Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or Offer Up bartering is part of the process. You want to make sure you have competitive pricing but not too high or low. Too high makes it hard to compete with similar listings and too low makes it hard to barter. Instead, shop around these sites to find similar listing priced competitively.

If you are set on the price, make sure to let them know in the listing. Otherwise, include something like “will negotiate” or “OBO” which stands for “or best offer.” This way there isn’t’ any confusion when you meet with potential buyers on price.

Step 6. Specify Delivery

This is 100% your choice! As not everyone has trucks or trailers this can be a way to earn extra money with your appliances. Pre-negotiate a rate that is cheaper than renting one at U-Haul but enough to make sure it will cover your gas, time, and hassle. Make sure you learn their zip code so you can check the proximity and give them an accurate price.

If it’s a large item that is too heavy make sure there is someone there that can help you move the item as well. You don’t want to get injured as you’ll most likely be liable for any injuries that may happen. This is why having them pick up can be a betty option depending on your situation.

Step 7. Specify Payment Methods & Refund Policy

While there are tons of great ways to pay online the best way to pay for things on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or Offer Up is still cash. Checks can be voided and bank transfers can be canceled which can leave you empty handed.

Sometime buyers will try to trade other items but I always recommend going with cash and not offering any refunds. In the description make sure to include that the item is sold as is and state clearly your refund policy (if any).

Step 8. Include Best Contact Information

I’ve bought and sold hundreds of things on Craigslist and communication is key to making it happen. I’ve literally had buyers contact me and arrive within minutes if I was available. The quicker the communication the more likely you are to make the sale happen.

If you don’t want to include your phone make sure to leave your best email address so buyers can contact you with questions or inquiries. Also, make sure to whitelist Craigslist or Offer Up as it’s easy for them to go into spam and not see the messages until it’s too late.

Step 9. Closing the Deal

Once you do communicate with the buyer via text, call or email I always use presumptive language. Instead of saying “Do you want to look at the item?” say “When do you want to pick up?” Change the psychology and assume they already want to buy your appliance becuase you’ve created such a compelling listing.

If they aren’t sold and want to come look at in person make sure to specify a date and time. The sooner the better! I’ve found that buyers flake easily on these sites so try to meet them the same day if possible for both of you. Like I mentioned, I’ve literally had people arrive within minutes.

Also, if they are trying to push the date a few days out or seem flaky I recommend adding a deadline by saying there are other options or someone is coming sooner that day or the day before. Create urgency to get rid of your appliance, make money, and get the buyers to take action!

Lastly, always take precautions for your own safety. Craigslists and relevant sites still have individuals that ruin the experience for everyone. Always meet somewhere public if possible and if you do so at your home have someone else there as well.

Can Flipping Appliances Be a Side Hustle?

There are so many ways to make money outside your 9-5. Whether you are starting a blog, flea market flipping or selling used appliances, there have been more ways to earn money quickly.

If you don’t have the time or desire to start an online business this could be a great side hustle idea. The number one thing you will need to start this side hustle is a truck and/or trailer to help you transport larger electronics. Sorry, your small gas-saving car won’t work for this one!

Also, you will generally not be able to buy and sell them instantly. You will either need space a garage, the side of your house, or a storage unit. Storage units are a great place to store them and not annoy your family or neighbors with large, clunky appliances around your home. Plus, they can help if you live in an apartment or condo.

Where to Find Used Appliances

Most people start this side hustle by scouring craigslist. While it’s a great place to start don’t be afraid to check out your local flea markets, swap meets, and Offer Up. Once you begin searching, make sure the appliances are in good shape and as it will make it easy to resell them in the near future.

If you consider yourself a handy person this is also a good side hustle as the repairs can be easy for some people to fix and make huge returns. For others, it might take some more time watching Youtube videos and learning more about the business.

Personally, I’m extremely unhandy and wouldn’t consider this side hustle as I can barely change an air filter in my house but this is great for someone who likes to repair things. If you’re ready to start this side hustle here is what you’ll want to look at before picking up an appliance:

  • Priced low enough that you can make money reselling
  • Appliances that are close enough to your location to make it worth your gas and time to pick them up
  • Ones that are in good shape so you have minimal, if any, repairs to avoid frustration

1. How to Find the Right Priced Appliances

If you want to make this a great side hustle you have to become a great bargain shopper. The only way to make money flipping anything is to buy low and sell high. I tried flea market flipping in the past and never had luck as I didn’t have a specialty item I was trying to flip.

But, if you make appliance flipping your main hustle you will get a good understanding what’s valuable and what’s junk. You can browse items online on Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or free apps.

Make sure to also check garage sales, the free section of craigslist and even stores closing near you. Often times when stores are closing they will try to liquidate everything which can help you find a great deal.

2. How to Save Money on Gas and Find Appliances That Aren’t Too Far Away

Depending on where you live gas is very expensive, especially in the summertime with a large truck.  Before driving to the location try to calculate in advance how much it will cost to buy, repair (if needed), gas, time, and profit. If you are driving an hour to only make $100, spend $20 in gas is it really worth it?

If possible, try to create a route where you can stop by different locations or flea markets to save gas money and make the most out of your time. Saturday’s are a great day to meet with vendors, visit flea markets, or stop by garage sales. Map out your route and stops in advance.

3. Picking the Right Appliances to Flip

When it comes to selling large appliances you don’t have to just think about washers and dryers. You can also buy and sell refrigerators, chest freezers, and dishwashers. Some of the items will be bigger than others and also require more handiness if you need to repair.

I recommend starting with a niche so you can become more of an “expert” and it will also make repairs simple and easy. If you try to sell all large appliances it can be difficult to know the ins and outs of repair and pricing each item. Plus, some items might be too big to transport or store.

Find Rebates for Cash Back

The last thing you can do to make money for your appliances is to take advantage of tax credits, rebate, insurance savings, and others to save big on any new appliances you are purchasing. Make sure to check out these sites and act quick as they are given on a first come first serve basis.

  1. Contact Your Local Utility Provider: Depending on your utility company they might give you an incentive or rebate for switching to a more energy efficient appliance. Call ahead and contact them for a list of approved appliances before shopping or purchasing.
  2. Contact Your Home Insurance Provider: If you are a homeowner you can also contact your home insurance provider to see if you can receive a discount. This will be different for each provider so make sure to call ahead.
  3. Find an Online Rebate: The biggest brands like PG&E and GE are always offering different rebates for new appliances. Sometimes this saving can be huge so make sure to not skip out on this easy money!
  4. Energystar.gov: This site will help you find rebates on energy efficient appliances by zip code and product.
  5. Energy.gov: Use this site to find appliance tax credits, savings, and rebates for the state you live in. Some states have huge amounts of savings!

Final Thoughts

There are no shortages of ways to get rid of your old, used, or unwanted appliances and turning those items into cash or a check in your name. At the end of the day, it really comes down to how much time and effort you want to spend offloading these items.

You can choose to sell them yourself using Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace or relevant apps quickly and cheaply. Or, if you have other items in your home you can have a good old-fashioned garage sale and declutter your house and garage.

If you don’t feel like they are worth much or want to minimize the effort you can always sell to local stores, resellers, flea markets or cash in for scrap metal.

Lastly, you can choose to donate these items to help others in need. Not only is this a good deed but a tax write off as well.

How to Make the Most Money When Selling Your Used Furniture https://www.moneypeach.com/sell-used-furniture/ https://www.moneypeach.com/sell-used-furniture/#comments Wed, 06 Jul 2022 17:30:03 +0000 https://www.moneypeach.com/?p=7252 When it’s time to replace that old piece of furniture, you don’t have to necessarily set it out on the curb with a “free” sign. If your furniture items are in decent shape, you may be able to sell your used furniture and put a little extra cash in your pocket.

Have an old cell phone laying around? BuybackBoss now guarantees the most money for your used phone.

There are several places to turn your stuff into cash and even selling your used furniture can be done online. The list of websites and apps are growing rapidly, which means you have an incredible opportunity to sell just about anything.

So instead of giving your furniture away or taking it to junkyard, consider for a moment earning a little extra cash by selling it.

If you have some used furniture you’d like to sell, here’s a list of the top ways to let people know about it and add a little extra cash to your life in the process.

Top 5 Sites to Sell Used Furniture

Right now I am a huge fan of OfferUp because of the simplicity and the security features they have. However, if you do have a unique piece of furniture, then I would recommend checking out Etsy or Chairish.

1. OfferUp

Your first choice when it comes to selling furniture should be OfferUp. Right now OfferUp is the largest mobile marketplace for both buyers and sellers, and for good reason.

OfferUp takes your security and safety very serious. You will need to verify your account via TruYou – a system that verifies who you are via email, social media profile, phone number, and photo ID. Your photo ID is not shared with anyone else and instead you can create your own profile using whichever picture you would like.

OfferUp also allows you to message inside the app so you never have to give out your personal phone number if you don’t feel comfortable doing so.

Beyond furniture, here are some other categories you may find useful for selling on OfferUp.

Categories

  • Antiques
  • Appliances
  • Arts and crafts
  • Cars and trucks
  • Auto parts
  • Baby and kids
  • Beauty and health
  • CDs and DVDs
  • Cell phones
  • Clothing and shoes
  • Farming
  • Games and toys
  • Household

Basically if you have something for sale, you can sell it on OfferUp within minutes. I sold an old gas grill within 5 minutes on OfferUp (which means I probably sold it too cheap)!

Get the App

2. Etsy

Etsy probably isn’t the first place I’d go to sell used furniture but you do have options for selling your used furniture there under two conditions;

  1. If it’s vintage (which according to Etsy is at least 20 years old)
  2. If it’s handmade

So, that old handmade table you made in shop class counts. As does grandma’s side table that no longer fits in with your home’s decor.

Although Etsy does allow for furniture sales in certain situations, their parameters for used furniture selling are pretty limited. Etsy is great for selling and buying handmade and other items. In fact, I love browsing Etsy especially when shopping for gift items. But when it comes to selling furniture your options are limited.

3. eBay

We all know eBay has a massive viewing audience, which is why it might be a great place to sell your used furniture.

When you sell your furniture on eBay you have a choice of offering shipping or stating that the item is for pick-up only.

If you are selling higher end items, you could also bump up the price to include shipping charges and offer free shipping, which is also very attractive for many eBay buyers.

Selling your furniture on eBay can be a good idea if you’re looking for a larger viewing audience, but be sure to clearly state in your listing description that your furniture is for pickup only. If you’re having to lug around furniture all over town, then this defeats the purpose of using eBay a tool for selling used furniture.

Also, keep in mind eBay does charge listing fees of varying amounts for items listed (even if they don’t sell) and they also charge selling fees as well. Be certain you know what those fees are before listing your furniture on eBay so you can work them into your asking price.

4. Facebook Marketplace

Facebook Marketplace is another great place to sell your furniture for free. You also have the benefit of joining local groups so you can sell directly to people in your area.

With Facebook groups there are no listing or selling fees, so all of your profit stays in your pocket.

To find groups near you, just sign onto your Facebook account and search “buy and sell groups near me” in the Facebook search bar.

As with any site, when you list on a Facebook buy and sell group be sure to take good pictures, write a thorough (but not overly-wordy description), point out any important flaws and price your furniture pieces attractively.

5. Craigslist

Craigslist is probably one of the most popular places to sell used furniture. It’s free, easy to use and highly popular. There’s always an abundant selection of furniture for sale on most local Craigslist sites.

The biggest note I’d add when selling used furniture on Craigslist (or any similar site) is to be sure you’re using safety precautions and meeting potential buyers in a way that is safe and secure.

Generally when you’re selling furniture the buyer or potential buyer is going to come to your home – you’re not going to be lugging a sofa up to the local Walmart to meet.

Put security practices in place when allowing buyers into your home. Try not to be there alone. Have your cell phone on hand. Inform neighbors or others that you’ll be having strangers over and ask them to keep an eye on you.

99% of the buyers on Craigslist are likely fine, but it’s always smart to be aware of the 1% that may not be.

Selling on Craigslist can be a super fast way to get cash for your used furniture and not have to pay any commissions or listing/selling fees. You can also try expanding your ability to sell on these 27 other sites similar to Craigslist.

Other Sites Worth Mentioning

These next sites are worth mentioning and will only increase the exposure for you to sell your used furniture. Remember, the more eyes you can get on your items, the better the sale price will be for you.

1st Dibs

1st Dibs sells both antique and modern jewelry, art, fashion, and yes – furniture. Selling your used furniture on this site isn’t for everyone; you’ll do better if you have higher end furniture that’s in great shape.

And not everyone is allowed to sell on 1st Dibs; you have to fill out an application and be approved as a dealer first. I’d say this site is best for those who have several pieces of furniture to sell; stuff that’s in great shape and can fetch a great price with the right audience.

1st Dibs helps you take care of shipping, etc. too if you end up with an out-of-town buyer. The site isn’t clear on what they charge for a commission on your sales but they do charge one.

Chairish

Chairish is simply an online consignment store. You can sell a number of items on Chairish including:

  • Furniture
  • Rugs
  • Mirrors
  • Art pieces
  • Lighting
  • Other types of decor
  • Outdoor furniture and other outdoor items.

Chairish makes it easy for you to list your items, and will charge you a flat rate of 20% of your sale price. They’ll also help you arrange for shipping if you would like them to.

This means that you can widen your viewing audience by offering to buyers who aren’t in close proximity to where you live if you’re okay with dealing with shipping.

Bonus: The site shares tips on how to better advertise your items for sale and has a 24/7 customer service line if you need help.

AptDeco

AptDeco allows sellers in the New York City and surrounding areas to sell their furniture online. I love the professional feel of this site. As a shopper, you can search via brand name and get great deals on brands such as Pottery Barn, Room & Board, Restoration Hardware, etc.

Selling your furniture on AptDeco allows you to reach a large audience (there’s over 8 million residents in New York City alone) and get some help conducting the transaction.

You’ll pay a fee of between 19% and 29% to sell on AptDeco, however they handle all of the shipping arrangements or coordination of pickup by the buyer.

Listing your item on AptDeco is easy: there’s a form you fill out that guides you through entering the brand name of the item you’re selling and even includes pricing suggestions to help you to price your item to sell quickly.

Once your item sells, AptDeco will make a direct deposit to your bank account or debit card within 2 to 5 business days.

Apartment Therapy Marketplace

Apartment Therapy Marketplace is an attractive and well-organized website that allows you to sell “pre-loved” furniture and storage items for home and office, decor and accessories, art, vintage and antique and even appliances.

They have an interesting set up for people who want to sell; you can list your items for free, or they will sell you credits to “promote” a listing. You can also use any leftover credits to purchase other items on their site.

What does it mean to “promote” a listing?

First it means that your listing will be moved to the top of all listings – that is until someone else pays with credits to promote a listing.

Second, promoted listings will be included in the company’s weekly digest, which is a weekly email sent out to all members sharing featured listings. Although they used to charge a transaction fee, there are now no transaction fees for when you sell your item on Apartment Therapy Marketplace.

This website doesn’t yet operate in every city like a Craigslist does, but they are in many major cities and invite you to add your city if it’s not already listed. Some of the cities they operate in include:

  • Phoenix
  • New York City
  • Los Angeles
  • Las Vegas
  • Charlotte
  • Dallas

And thousands more, including many other countries around the world.

Bonus: You can also offer your items to ship to other cities around the country if you want to.

For example, when I looked at listings for sofas in my major metropolitan city there were only about a dozen, however there were many more listings in other cities that were willing to ship a sofa to me if I was willing to purchase.

Collecting payment with your buyers is your responsibility and is very similar to how Craigslist sellers and buyers conduct transactions.

Varage Sale

Varage Sale is a site allowing you to sell your used furniture and other items online and list by state or city. The tagline says Created by a mom, for people who feel hesitant about buying and selling online.

Varage Sale is most like Craigslist in terms of features, but with a little more pizzazz. When you buy or sell on this site you need to create a profile for security purposes, which is a nice feature for everyone’s safety.

There are no listing or selling fees on this site. One downside is that you can’t get a whole lot of info on for sale items unless you sign up. This is for security purposes, which is nice, but if you’re leery about giving out personal information, this may not be for you.

As far as becoming a seller, this is a wonderful site to utilize; the listings are attractively placed and security measures are taken to protect everyone.

Bonus: Varage Sale does not allow people to advertise the less-than-ethical stuff you’ll find on Craigslist and other sites, so you can feel secure letting your kids browse the listings without worrying they’re going to come across anything sketchy.

Your Local Consignment Shop

Most all larger cities have brick-and-mortar consignment shops where they can bring their furniture to sell to a potentially larger, buy-on-the-spot audience.

Do a Google search for “consignment shops near me”, and you can find local consignment shops in your area.

Also, many consignment shops have a note in their contracts which allows them to lower the price on your item if they have a sale or if it doesn’t sell in a specified number of days. This is so they can be sure their store is continually rotating new stock so potential buyers don’t get tired of seeing the same items each time they shop.

Although you don’t have as much control over profit, etc. when you sell used furniture with a consignment shop, you also don’t have to deal with having people over to see the piece or haggling on prices.

If you’re looking to get your furniture item out of your house quickly and have someone else take care of the negotiation and sales part of it, and if you’re willing to share a large portion of your sale price, selling in a consignment shop might be a good choice for you.

Old Fashion Garage Sale

You can always sell your furniture at a traditional garage sale if you’re up for putting in the work. One good thing about using a garage sale to sell your used furniture is it will allow you to sell a bunch of other stuff you don’t want or need at the same time.

Obviously there are no listing or selling fees when you hold a garage sale, and people are there in person to look at your stuff, which can create a sense of urgency because they know other buyers are right there shopping as well.

If you decide to sell furniture at a garage sale, I suggest posting your sale days on sites like Craigslist, and including the types of furniture you are selling, along with photos if possible.

Signs advertising your sale placed around the neighborhood can help too, as does holding your sale with others in your family or neighborhood and posting it as a multi-family sale. That term tells potential shoppers that you’ll have a variety of different types of items for sale.

Tips for Getting the Most Money When You Sell Used Furniture

When I browse through the various websites offering used furniture for sale I’m often amazed at what I find – and not in a good way. For some reason people in my large metropolitan area seem to price used furniture much higher than I would pay for it.

Maybe I’m just cheap frugal, but if I was selling used furniture here’s how I would do it in order to make my pieces sell fast and get me some cash at the same time.

Make it Pop

Now, I wouldn’t spend the money to get your used furniture professionally cleaned before you sell it (you likely wouldn’t recoup the cost unless it was a high end piece to begin with), however you can spiff it up a bit.

For instance, you can take out the cushions and vacuum the crumbs, coins and other garb that often accumulates under couch and chair cushions.

You can also take a damp rag and work to remove any stains or dirt that might wipe off easily. Beware of using furniture and other types of cleaning products until you’ve checked the manufacturer’s directions, however.

Just clean it up good and make sure it’s free of any dirt, grime or crumbs.

Take Good Pphotos

Before you list your furniture on a website, take good photos.

Make sure the light is natural but not too sunny; photos with too much sun can make furniture appear faded and more worn than it actually is.

A slightly overcast day with your furniture in a room with lots of windows works best. If that’s not an option, just be sure to avoid shadows, too much artificial light or too little artificial light.

Write a Good Description

When writing a description it’s important to play up the piece’s features without being dishonest.

For instance, don’t say “excellent condition” if it’s not nearly like new. And don’t bank too much on telling people what you paid for the piece. While that can be important, buyers are more concerned with whether or not they can afford to pay what you want to get for it.

Also, adding in measurements for the piece is super helpful so people can determine whether or not the piece will fit in the space they need it for. Take width, height and depth measurements and try to be as accurate as possible.

Feel free to add in other information that might make buyers feel more comfortable too. One of the big fears people have with buying used furniture is that there have been the usual life challenges damage to it: kids throwing up on it or soaking through a diaper, beer and soda spills, etc.

Putting potential buyers’ minds at ease by telling them the sofas have been lovingly cared for with no spills or other types of kid or adult messes can help people be more eager to look at what you’re offering.

Point Out Any Flaws

There’s almost nothing a buyer hates more than expecting one thing when they go to look at a piece of furniture and getting something else.

If there are tears, holes or stains in your furniture piece, be upfront and honest about them so that potential buyers don’t end up seeing an item in person that’s in much worse shape than what the photos show.

People expect used furniture to have flaws, but if they know ahead of time what those flaws are they can make a more informed purchase decision.

On the other hand, if an item only shows the flawless parts on the pictures and there are tears, holes or stains that aren’t shown, a buyer will likely feel deceived if they show up to buy something and there are undisclosed flaws.

Price It Right

As you decide what price to charge for your furniture pieces, use other similar items online as a guide. Try and remove your emotional attachment to the piece, either the emotional attachment of how it’s served your family or the emotional attachment of what you paid for you.

As an example, let’s say you paid $2,000 for a higher end sofa ten years ago. It’s highly likely you’ll be able to sell it for $1,000 unless it’s in perfect shape – and even maybe not then.

Why?

Because people can go and get a halfway decent brand new couch for $1,000 at their local furniture store.

Instead, price it closer to what your bottom line is, and think in terms of the work you’ll have to do if no one wants to pay for it. Use that information to set a price that is attractive and will make more people consider jumping on the offer.

Or, if you don’t mind the piece sitting around your house for several weeks, up the price a bit and see what happens.

Research Before You Sell It

Before you sell any used furniture, check what things are selling for right now. If you want to get rid of it quickly, then price it towards the bottom of the range. If you don’t mind storing your furniture for an extra week (and it looks good), then price it towards the top.

The nice thing about furniture is there aren’t 100s just like yours. Unlike selling used cell phones, furniture is very unique and therefore you may get more than you think. The bottom line is to spend two minutes on the app or website researching similar items so you price it at the speed you would like to sell it.

Final Thoughts

There are many choices for where to sell used furniture; make your pieces look great, take great photos, write attractive but honest descriptions, price right and advertise where you think you’ll have the most views. Even though we live in an online world, don’t forget about the tried and true method of placing copies of flyers around your neighborhood to sell your stuff as well.

Get your money quickly and help someone get furniture at an affordable price at the same time.

Now that you’re in sell mode, we can also show you how to get the most cash for your used appliances and the top tips to selling just about anything online.

The Best 30 Websites Like Craigslist to Buy and Sell https://www.moneypeach.com/sites-like-craigslist/ https://www.moneypeach.com/sites-like-craigslist/#comments Wed, 06 Jul 2022 16:55:00 +0000 https://www.moneypeach.com/?p=6936
sites like craigslist

Did you know there are so many other sites like Craigslist to buy and sell your stuff?

Of course Craigslist is the most well-known and for good reason. First, the site features hundreds of thousands of items for sale in pretty much any category you can imagine.

Second, (and probably my most favorite reason) it’s so popular because it’s free. F.R.E.E. Free to list, free to sell, free to buy. If you’ve ever had other types of sites eat up your profits via listing and selling fees, you know what I’m talking about.

However, with the ever-expanding world of e-commerce, there are now dozens of other (better) sites like Craigslist to choose from to list the stuff you want to sell, or to buy the things you want or need. Here are the top 30 of the most popular alternatives to Craigslist you might find helpful for buying or selling things or services.

The Top 10 Sites Like Craigslist

These sites are listed in order of my favorite sites to buy and sell online that are very similar Craigslist. Right now Offer Up is my favorite, but the Facebook Marketplace is also a very quick and easy way to sell your items as well. When I am looking for services, I lean on Offer Up and when I am looking to sell something quickly, I will head on over to the Facebook Marketplace.

1. Offer Up

Offer Up is a selling site where you list your items or services by type, and you search by type, city or zip code. There’s an added filter letting you choose how far away you can search from that city or zip code.

Categories

  • Antiques
  • Appliances
  • Arts and crafts
  • Auto parts
  • Baby and kids
  • Beauty and health
  • Bicycles
  • Boats and marine
  • Books and magazines
  • Services

Okay, the list is seriously too long to post here. Offer Up has a lot of categories and a ton of stuff or services for sale from appliances and auto parts to used textbooks and antiques. You can also ask the seller a question or even make an offer. No listing fees or selling fees. Offer Up is my favorite for security as well. They take your safety seriously and will advise you to as well.

sites like craigslist

2. Facebook Marketplace

If you have a Facebook account, then you already have access to the Facebook Marketplace. Facebook does a really great job with their marketplace and makes it extremely simple to buy or sell. All communication is done via Facebook Messenger and can be done from mobile or desktop. With the amount of people shopping on Facebook, you can usually sell your stuff the fastest on this platform.

3. Poshmark

sites like craigslistPoshmark is a social marketplace for new and secondhand style clothing. Now with over 80 million community members across the U.S., Canada, and Australia and nearly 200 million items for sale — Poshmark is now one of the top sites like craigslist when it comes to buying and selling clothing.

4. Etsy

Started in 2005, Etsy has been the go-to place for crafters, hobbyists, and artists. Today, Etsy is growing into an incredibly large market for online shoppers and is another great alternative to craigslist.

5. Facebook Groups

Selling on Facebook started inside Facebook groups long before the Facebook Marketplace. Once you request and are approved for a local Facebook group (often called “YOUR CITY Swip Swap), you can begin selling your items and finding other things to buy in your local area.

It can be a bit tedious to find the right sale group for your items on Facebook which is why I like the Marketplace better. However, I do like the fact that if there are any complaints about someone inside the group – they are usually kicked out of the group. This causes buyers and sellers to be extra nice (and fair) with each other to remain in the group.

6. Apartments.com

If you are looking for an apartment to rent or to rent out, Apartments.com has a lot to offer. You can search specific neighborhoods with millions of listings across the United States.

In addition, Apartments.com continues to make over one million calls each month to apartment owners and property managers in order to collect and verify current availabilities, rental rates, pet policies, fees, leasing incentives, concessions, and anything else you may need to know.

Althought Apartments.com is a site like Craigslist, it does offer more rental listings than any other apartments website, including Craigslist.

7. Indeed.com

Whether you are looking for part-time, full-time, or freelance work, Indeed.com is now the #1 job site in the world. In fact, Indeed.com gets over over 250 million unique visitors every month.

Why it still isn’t a bad idea to look for work or to post a job on Craigslist, Indeed.com has visitors who are there solely searching for jobs.

8. Match.com

If you’re searching for any kind of dating opportunities on Craigslist — don’t. Craigslist actually discontinued its personal ads in 2018, which means if you’re seeing personal ads on Craigslist, they’re not legitimate.

A great alternative to Craigslist for dating is Match.com and in 2022 Match.com was named best dating app for long-term relationships by PC magazine.

9. Carvana

While Craigslist is a still a great place to buy and sell your car, there are many other sites out there that focus solely on car sales. One of the fastest growing place to buy or sell your car online is Carvana. Many people know Carvana as the car-vending-maching company, but Carvana has recently become the go-to place for online car transactions with a 7-day return policy on any vehicle purchased through Carvana.

10. Zillow

If you’re looking to buy, rent, or sell a home on Craigslist, you may also want to look to Zillow

You can buy, rent, or sell a home on Zillow, plus find valuable tools and tips for house hunting, finding a mortgage lender, real estate agent, or even an interior decorator. The browsing feature on Zillow allows you to search multiple listings in your desired town, city, or state ranked by price, lot size, number of rooms, and other settings.18

Zillow can help you find a real estate agent to show you the home, and some listings offer a virtual 3D tour. This alternative to house hunting on Craigslist, which sometimes offers limited information, offers a level of professionalism and tools and expert advice needed for such a serious business transaction. Besides, the sheer volume of homes, townhouses, and condominiums available on Zillow make it house hunters’ virtual paradise.

The Rest of the Best Sites like Craigslist

11. Oodle

Probably the most comparable to Craigslist is Oodle, but it also does something Craiglist does not do – Oodle aggregates listings both locally and nationally from sites like eBay, ForRent.com, BoatTrader.com, Cars.com, and many more. Oodle uses these networks of online marketplaces to buy, sell, and trade products and services.

Categories

  • Merchandise
  • Motor-operated vehicles (cars, boats, motorcycles, RVs, etc.)
  • Rentals
  • Real estate
  • Jobs
  • Pets
  • Tickets
  • Services
  • Personal ads
  • Community-related ads (announcements, groups, etc.)

Currently Oodle has over 15 million monthly users and is available in the United States, Australia, Canada, India, UK, Ireland, and New Zealand. There are no fees for listing or selling, however there are limits to how many listings you can post at a time based on your selling categories.

12. Locanto

When you think of Locanto, think of the word “local”.

Instead of offering up ads from around the country, Locanto is best for those who are looking for something locally such as a used car, a babysitter, a job, or anything particular to the vicinity of where you live.

It’s very simple to post an ad on Locanto and the ads are meant to feel and look like ads you see in the local newspaper (what are newspapers again?). My favorite part of Locanto is your ad will remain live for 60 days which exposes your ad to a very large audience.

Bonus: You can upload pictures into your ad and you can use HTML codes to send a link to your website if you choose to do so.

13. Trovit

Trovit is a site where you can list your homes and cars for sale, or list available job positions you may need to fill. How Trovit works is it lists ads for over 50 countries including the United States, Mexico, the UK, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Mexico, and many, many more.

The site is pretty well organized. When you search for a vehicle you start with the country you want to buy in. From there it brings you to another screen where you can choose a make, model, etc. You can choose cars by area or by make and model.

Searches for real estate work similarly. You start by choosing your area, and from there you can narrow down the search based on the type of house/number of bedrooms, etc. you want.

The site has an expansive amount of listings on it. Most all of the listings seemed to be taken from/linked to other sources. FYI, you can only advertise items for sale on Trovit if you own a coordinating website.

However, if you’re advertising on Craigslist or similar sites you can be pretty sure your ad will show up on Trovit anyway.

14. Gumtree

Gumtree is just like Craigslist and is wildly popular in the UK and is also frequently used in Australia, South Africa, and recently Gumtree has began to increase in popularity within the United States

No matter where you live, Gumtree is still a great alternative to Craigslist because of the ability to buy and sell to anyone in the world.

Gumtree can also be used as an app and can be found in both the iTunes App Store and Google Play Store.

15. US Free Ads

USFreeAds have been around since 1999 and I don’t think they’ve ever done an update on the look of their site. It’s about as plain and simple as you can get which isn’t always a bad thing. Sometimes keeping it as simple as possible works the best.

After doing some digging, there are two separate sites for US Free Ads –  USFreeAds and USNetAds.

16. AdLandPro

AdLandPro allows you to post up to 20 ads for free and the ads will stay on their site for 4 weeks. However, if you update your ad inside those 4 weeks, you can keep your ads up indefinitely.

Once you post your ad, it is then sent to their database which is linked to over 57,000 affiliates websites.

Some of these are older sites that many have forgot about or they may be brand new and just getting started. Often I will find the best deals on these sites listed below because they may not have as much competition from other buyers and sellers.

17. Geebo

What makes Geebo (pronounced G-bo) unique is the personal touch in the digital age. Every single ad is actually manually approved by a human being instead of a robot or algorithm.

Geebo is only offered in the United States and is currently in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Miami, Chicago, Dallas, Austin, Phoenix, Washington, DC, and Seattle. To date, Geebo has spread to over 160 communities nationwide.

18. USA Today

Not much to explain here. USA Today is a giant in the print and digital media niche and reported over 102 million unique visitors and 1.2 billion pageviews per month in 2017.

One thing is for sure – your ad will be seen by a lot of people!

19. Ads Globe

Ads Globe is a nice looking site, it’s free, and you can choose ads from a drop down list of multiple countries.

However, after looking through their site for United States based ads, very few ads were found. If you’re going to try out Ads Globe, be sure to set your location at the very top left of their site.

20. PennySaver USA

I am sure the founder of Craigslist (Craig Newmark) had a PennySaver print ad in his hand well before he ever thought of starting Craigslist.

Penny Saver has been around for more than 50 years and survived the shift from print media to digital media in the online world. If you live in California, you can still find the Penny Saver in print, but everywhere else is online as PennySaver USA.

Also, PennySaver USA is visited more than 1 million unique visitors per month.

21. City News

City News offers free classified ads to help you sell or buy all over the world. You can post in City News if you live in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia and more. There’s also an option for upgraded ads, but there are charges to upgrade.

Categories

You can choose from a variety of categories to sell or shop in, including:

  • Antiques and collectibles
  • Astrology, holistic and religion
  • Auto and motor vehicles
  • Boats and water sports
  • Business opportunities
  • Real estate
  • People connections

And more. I even found ads for medical treatment services, such as knee surgery in foreign countries, which was….interesting.

22. 10 Day Ads

10 Day Ads has an interesting concept going for them. It’s free to list and sell stuff online, however the ads only stay on the site for – you guessed it – 10 days.

The goal, according to the site, is to keep the ads new and fresh so people aren’t seeing the same listings over and over again like can happen when people post on Craigslist.

Not only does this concept help buyers to avoid seeing old ads, it helps them minimize the chances of seeing an ad for an item that is already sold.

Categories

  • Antiques and collectibles
  • Employment
  • Music/records/CDs
  • Appliances
  • Everything else/miscellaneous
  • Personals/video profiles
  • Art
  • Fashion
  • Pets
  • Automotive
  • Baby items
  • Home and garden

And several other categories. The site is pretty well organized and easy to use. The site offered ads from all over the world, however when I checked the listings a lot of the categories had “zero” items for sale.

23. FreeAdsTime

FreeAdsTime looks and runs a lot like Craigslist. You start by choosing your state, and then the city you want to browse in, from the home page.

Categories

From there you can choose from several different categories such as:

  • Jobs
  • Services
  • Vehicles
  • Pets
  • Real estate/rentals
  • Community
  • Musician
  • Items

“Items” refers to things for sale and under this banner you’ll find links to items such as clothing, collectibles, computers, kids’ stuff, heavy equipment, jewelry, furniture and more.

You don’t have to create an account to post here, however, doing so will give you added benefits, such as being able to track the number of views on the items you’ve posted. It’s free to create an account too.

As I searched the site, I found there were several ads to browse for some items, and zero ads to browse for others. The site was attractive and easy to use.

24. Recycler

Recycler is another site where you place your ads directly. The site is easy to use and has categories such as cars and vehicles, pets, real estate for sale, rentals, sports and recreation, community, jobs and more.

It seemed to me that the majority of the stuff listed for sale here consisted of vehicles. Some categories, such as pets, had no listings when I was doing my research, however in the vehicles category there were thousands of ads to browse through.

You have to create an account with Recycler in order to post an ad, however it’s free to do so. This is a site I’d use to advertise a vehicle I had for sale, but it doesn’t look like it gets a whole lot of traffic for other items.

25. Borro

Borro is a site where you can sell your stuff to a pawn company. Their primary goal is to lend people money using their valuables as security, however it looks like they will buy items within certain parameters.

Items they accept for pawn include: jewelry, precious metals, camera equipment, musical instruments, Apple computers, luxury cars, and designer handbags. You can also buy these items directly from Pawngo.

26. Classified Ads

The Classified Ads website seems to be a pretty popular place to list items for sale.

Categories

Some of the categories they run ads for include:

  • Vehicles
  • Real estate
  • Rentals
  • Pets
  • Personals
  • Jobs
  • Items for sale

And others. You can place ads directly on the site, but I also noticed they had ads that seemed to be pulled from other sites. The site is simple, but organized and easy to use.

27. OLX

OLX offers items for sale that include all of the usual stuff: vehicles, real estate, electronics, used furniture, clothing, etc. They have sites for a couple of dozen countries, including Pakistan, Guatemala, India, South Africa and more.

However, when you click on “United States” it brings you to LetGo’s website. It’s a good place to search and list if you live in countries outside of the U.S.

28. Bookoo

Bookoo brings buyers and sellers together. They have site pages for all 50 U.S. states, as well as sites for Germany, Italy, Belgium, Japan, the UK and more.

As far as U.S. ads go, some states had dozens of cities listed while others, like Minnesota, Michigan and Idaho, had between zero and two cities listed.

Within many of the states and cities listed, however, there were quite a few ads to choose from if you’re shopping. This looks like a site that’s doing very well in some states, but still has room to grow in others.

29. Kijiji (Bay Classifieds)

Now rebranded as eBay Classified, Kijiji is dubbed Canada’s most popular free, local classifieds site. Kijiji shares ads in all of Canada’s major provinces and surrounding territories. Ads are listed by province and then narrowed down from there.

Categories

There are dozens of categories to choose from, including those listed below:

  • For sale
  • Housing
  • Electronics
  • Jobs
  • Pets
  • Home and garden
  • Community
  • Cars and vehicles
  • Services and resumes

30. Hoobly

Hoobly classifieds offer the usual stuff: vehicles, clothing, jobs, etc. You don’t need an account to browse listings, however you will need to create one (they’re free) to communicate with sellers or to list something for sale.

There weren’t a ton of listings on this site, but it’d be worth a look if you’re searching for something in particular. States, such as Michigan and Florida, had a lot more listings than many of the other states featured here.

How to Safely Buy and Sell These Sites

Whenever you’re buying – or selling – on websites like the ones mentioned here, it’s important to use safety precautions in an effort to prevent scammers or criminals from taking advantage of you.

You can start by never giving anyone your personal credit or debit card or other financial information. Deal in cash only (or a cashier’s check from your bank for large ticket items) and don’t give sellers money until you’re sure you are getting what you are paying for. There are also apps for sending money online.

Also, when meeting up with someone, bring a second person along if possible, meet in a public place and always let someone know where you’re going and when you should be back.

Done right, you can get some phenomenal deals using online websites!

Summary

As you can see there are a ton of great other sites like Craigslist. Whether you’re looking to sell your car, get a deal on a washing machine, you need to create extra cash flow flipping “stuff” or just need money now you have options.

Also, in the comments below, please let me know if you have tried any of these and what you think of them. Or, if I am missing any other sites, please drop me a comment below and I will get them added in!

Thanks so much!

Selling Your Old Phone Online

Next up is selling your old phone online.

Why?

Well all of us have an old phone stashed away in a drawer somewhere and believe it or not, that old phone may be worth some serious money!

BuybackBoss (Most cash for old phone)

BuybackBoss is another great place to sell your old phone because they guarantee the MOST money when it comes to selling your old phone. However, you do have to prove it to them.

Since everyone today has a mobile phone, you probably also have an old phone lying around somewhere, right?

Turn that old phone into quick cash by getting the highest price for your old phone – guaranteed.

They have three simple steps when it comes to selling your old phone.

First it only takes 30 seconds or less to get your quote. Then, you simply ship your used phone for free and even track your shipment as well. Once your item is shipped, you get the choice of getting paid via check or through PayPal.

Also, if you do happen to find somewhere online that offers you a better price, you can simply send them an email (explanation on their website) with a link to the higher offer. Once they see the better offer, they will update your offer to beat their competitors and notify you once it’s ready to go.

With a Trustpilot rating of 4.8 out of 5 and the best-price guarantee, BuybackBoss is a no-brainer for selling your stuff online.

OC Buyback

OC Buyback is perfect if you have an iPod, tablet, Smartwatch, AppleTV or GoPro that you need to get rid of. Also, if you have are selling your old phone, definitely compare the price with BuybackBoss because of Buyback’s highest price guarantee.

It’s extremely simple to get started with OC Buyback. First you just need to select the device you are selling, ship your device for free (or drop off locally for free) and the get paid!

You can get paid via a mailed check (USPS First Class Mail) or get your money sent to your PayPal instantly (or up to 24 hours).

Also, there is no limit on how much you can sell on OC Buyback. Therefore, it may not be a bad idea to take some of that “junk” your friends are throwing away and turn that into some quick cash!

OC Buyback currently has a Trust Pilot rating of 4.6 out of 5. Not quite as high as BuyBack Boss, but still worth taking a look at.

Best Place to Sell Old Electronics

If you’re selling other electronics beyond your old phone, the best place to go is Decluttr.

Decluttr

If you have other electronics besides a cell phone, Decluttr is one of the best ways to sell your unwanted stuff online. Here’s how it works:

  1. First, you go to the Decluttr website to get the link for the free app and get a free instant evaluation of what you’re selling.
  2. Once you accept their offer, simply put into a box for shipping and they will send you a pre-paid shipping label.
  3. Next drop your package off at any UPS store, with any UPS driver, or with an authorized shipping dealer (you can search by your zipcode on their site)
  4. As soon as Decluttr receives your package, they will pay you the very next day by Direct Deposit, PayPal, by Check, or they will even make a donation to a charity of your choice on your behalf!

Decluttr is also a really safe way to sell your items because you aren’t selling to other individuals. Instead, Decluttr buys your stuff directly and then resells it on their site.

Categories you can sell on Decluttr:

  • CDs and DVDs
  • Video games
  • Gaming systems
  • Textbooks
  • Smartphones
  • Apple products such as iPods, iPads and iPhones
  • Kindles
  • Lego sets

I know. The Lego thing kind of threw you for a loop, didn’t it! It doesn’t really fit in with the other categories Decluttr sticks to, but apparently there’s a serious market for used Lego sets!

Best Places to Sell Anything

These next three sites will allow you to sell anything you have to an extremely broad audience.

OfferUp

OfferUp is now one of the most popular places to sell anything online — including any services you want to provide. The OfferUp app is extremely user friendly and allows you to post your items for sale in a matter of minutes. Whether you have items you want to sell or you have a service you would like to promote, OfferUp is the top place to get started.

OfferUp also offers shipping services which facilitaes the process of the buyer paying for shipping and then sending you a prepaid shipping label. This service allows you to sell anywhere outside of your local area.

Craigslist

The original place to sell stuff online. Craigslist is still a great place to sell stuff online, but as you can see there are now more places than ever to sell stuff online.

eBay

Another classic when it comes to selling online is eBay. However, if you’ve made it this far then you already know all about eBay. Moving onto the next on the list.

Amazon Seller Marketplace

Amazon has a popular program for selling your stuff online. The Amazon Seller Marketplace allows you to sell a variety of items online, including used items in many categories, as well as new items you’ve made or bought at a discount.

Categories

  • Amazon devices and accessories
  • Kindle devices and accessories
  • Automotive and powersports parts, tools, equipment and accessories
  • Baby gear (new only, excluding clothing)
  • Beauty (new only)
  • Books
  • Business products

For certain membership levels you’ll pay a monthly fee as well as individual listing and selling fees.

Given Amazon’s market share, the amount of exposure your items get could easily make up for the fees you may have to pay to sell.

Best Places to Sell Clothing and Accessories

Before selling your clothing and accessories on sites like Craigslist and OfferUp, here are a few sites that are best for clothing and fashion.

Poshmark

Poshmark lets you sell fashion clothing and accessories online. You can search by who you want to shop for (i.e. women, men or kids), by brand name, or by item (i.e. shorts, dresses, handbags, etc.).

When you sell an item on Poshmark, they’ll send you a prepaid shipping label to send it out. They charge a small commission based on the dollar amount of the transaction as well.

Categories

  • Women’s clothing
  • Men’s clothing
  • Kids’ clothing
  • Makeup
  • Shoes
  • Handbags
  • Jewelry and accessories

Posh’s Posh Protect program, along with their customer service team, helps ensure you get authentic items when you buy, and that you get paid promptly when you sell.

Get the App:

Depop

Depop is sort of an online flea market type of a site. Lots of fun vintage items on this site. Browsing through the listings was like taking a serious step back in time and was really fun. You use the app to buy and sell, and there are no fees or commissions paid.

There are no specific categories listed; the site just says “Find something that means something”. Most of the listings that I found on the site were clothing and accessory type items such as shirts, hats, jeans, jewelry, etc.

Most of the sellers on the site listed shipping fees to appeal to those who were buying from out of the area. The site is pretty simple and easy to use with the app, so if you have some cool, different or vintage clothing or accessories, this could be the way to go.

Get the App:

Vinted

With Vinted you can sell or buy used second-hand wardrobe items such as shoes, clothes, and accessories. There’s no cost to list or sell with Vinted, and like many other selling sites these days, users have to create a profile in order to enhance safety and security.

Categories

  • Women’s clothing, shoes and accessories

  • Men’s items

You can meet up in person if you find a local buyer, or ship and get payment via PayPal.

Best If You Only Want to Sell Locally

Do you want to sell locally? Here are a few great places to get started.

Facebook Marketplace

While Facebook Marketplace does allow you to sell outside of your area, this is a great option if you only want to sell locally. I would recommend joining free groups in your area that are for selling in your local area only.

It’s free, you just need to set up a Facebook account if you don’t yet have one.

5miles

The premise behind 5miles is that it will help you buy or sell anything within 5 miles of your location, but when I looked online I was relieved to see that they offered plenty of buying selections in a broader range, up to 40 miles or so away from where we live.

It’s free to list and sell on 5miles, just like it is on Craigslist and similar sites.

Best Places to Sell Textbooks

Have some old textbooks lying around? The good news is those books are usually worth a lot of cash!

Cash4Books

Cash4Books buys your used textbooks and other books. As with Decluttr, all you have to do is enter the ISBN (the number at the bottom of the barcode) of the book you’d like to sell and they’ll give you an offer price.

Once you’ve entered all of the ISBN numbers for the books you want to sell, and accepted the Cash4Books offer prices, they’ll send you a free prepaid shipping label that you can use to pack up and send your books to them.

After they’ve received the books and had a chance to assess their condition, etc., they’ll send you your earnings via PayPal. The site says that on average it takes about two weeks from the time you click “Sell my books” until the time you get your cash via PayPal.

Although the site buys all types of books, it looks as if the biggest payouts come from up-to-date used college textbooks.

If you’re a recent college graduate, know someone who is or can find newer versions of college textbooks at garage sales, this could be a great way to make some cash.

Her is also a complete list of selling used college text books.

Best Places to Sell Furniture

Many people make the mistake of selling furniture on sites that allow you to sell anything. Start with the sites that go beyond just selling stuff online and have a focus on furniture.

Chairish

Chairish is an online consignment store where you can sell used items in a number of categories. The site says it takes less than two minutes to list your item, and that you take home 80% of the sale price.

That’s a much higher percentage than what many brick-and-mortar consignment shops will offer to pay you since they have to cover space rental costs and employee pay and benefits.

You can sell items on Chairish to local people or ship the items out of state. Chairish helps you organize shipping arrangements too. This could be a good venue for you if you have lots of art deco or vintage items for the home.

Categories

  • Furniture
  • Art and mirrors
  • Rugs
  • Lighting
  • Decor
  • Outdoor

And more. Listing is free, the site has great tips on how to take the best photos to sell your item, and they have 24/7 customer service support as well.

Where Else To Sell Stuff Online

Mercari

Mercari allows you to sell your stuff online without any listing fees. However, you will pay a selling fee of 10% of the listing price, so be sure to price carefully. In other words, if you list something for $100 and a buyer bargains you down to $50, you’re still paying Mercari a $10 selling fee.

If you end up selling to a buyer who wants an item shipped to them, Mercari will help you do that by offering to print (and charge you for) a shipping label, or you can ship on your own.

Categories

  • Women
  • Men
  • Kids
  • Home
  • Vintage
  • Beauty
  • Tech
  • Sports
  • Handmade
  • Other

The “other category” can include a variety of items such as automotive (they even had cars listed in addition to auto parts), daily and travel items, musical instruments, office supplies, pet supplies and more.

As I searched the site looked like they had many items for sale in all 50 states, which indicates Mercari is a well-known and well-used site.

Get the App:

Dealo

Dealo touts itself as a “faster, safer way to buy and sell anything”. The site itself has very little information about how Dealo works, who is using it and where or what the fees are. Categories are not listed either, however the site states you can register, list or buy within 30 seconds.

Get the App:

Varage Sale

With Varage Sale you can list your items for sale and then meet up with buyers in your neighborhood. There are no categories listed for searching on this site, but there is a search bar that allows you to enter what you may be looking for, along with your location so you can find items near your home or work.

You need to sign up with Facebook or an email account so they can verify who you are – all buyers and sellers have to go through a verification process before they’re approved to buy or sell on the site.

In other words, you can browse the site’s listings, but both buyers and sellers need to sign up in order to get access to contact others within the site. This is a safety precaution that many buying and selling sites are implementing these days.

No listing or selling fees and no charge to bump your listing to the top of the site. A great alternative to the traditional garage sale.

I typed in my zip code and found several items available for sale nearby. Then, just for fun I typed “90210” in the search bar (the only out-of-state zip code I know off the top of my head; yeah, I know – I’m dating myself), and there were a lot of listings for that area as well.

Don’t Get Ripped Off (Here’s How)

Now that I have shared some of the more popular apps for selling stuff online, I want to take just a few minutes to talk about online selling and buying safety.

The world is full of con artists and other unsavory people, and it’s important to make sure you’re ahead of the game when it comes to online scammers in the selling and buying marketplace. Here are some tips that I’ve found helpful when it comes to avoiding scams when you go to sell stuff online.

Don’t Deviate From Normal Payment Options

Most sites have you pay one of a couple of different ways: you can meet in person and accept cash or a cashier’s check, or you can accept a PayPal payment if you’re shipping an item.

When selling something and meeting a person directly we only accept cash – never a personal check or money order. We will accept a cashier’s check for big ticket items, but we always call and verify with the bank it’s issued off of first.

Have a First Come, First Served Rule

Don’t offer to hold items for people that may never show up unless you have a good and valid reason to do so. Holding items puts you at risk for losing out on selling your item.

If someone wants your item bad enough they’ll find a way to make it there quickly.

Beware of Giving Second Chances

If someone doesn’t show up or doesn’t do what they’ve promised, be wary. In our case with the lady who wanted to buy our furniture but never showed up, she asked if she could come another time. We didn’t answer.

We like to follow the “Screw me once, shame on you, screw me twice, shame on me” mantra when selling stuff online. If someone disses us once we won’t give them a chance to do it again.

Meet Up with Potential Buyers in a Public Place if Possible

We don’t follow this rule always, but many times we’ll meet buyers at a central location as long as it’s somewhere with a lot of traffic, such as across the street from the local police department or at a big box store such as Walmart.

It’s important to not put yourself in a situation where you’re in an isolated area with strangers.

Never Meet Up with Buyers Alone

Always bring somebody along if you’re meeting up with potential buyers too. I don’t recommend ever going alone, simply for safety reasons.

Always Tell Somebody When You’re Meeting Up with a Potential Buyer

When you’re meeting up with a potential buyer – whether alone or with somebody else – always, always leave information about where you’re going, who you’re meeting (leave the contact info you’ve been using to communicate with them), what you’re doing and when you expect to be back.

Tell your loved ones to call you and check in if you’re not back when you say you expect to be back. It probably wouldn’t hurt to bring pepper spray or some other item to protect yourself if need be too.

If Something Seems “Off”, Go With Your Gut

When you’re selling or buying something online and something seems off, it’s probably best to pull out of the deal. If someone is offering you way too much for an item, or is trying to finagle some weird payment arrangements other than what is typical, I’d bail on the deal.

There are many scam artists out there who offer to give you “this” if you’ll do “that” when you’re doing online selling and buying. For instance they’ll arrange for third-party payment, or send you over what you want and ask you to give them back the difference, or other similar odd types of requests.

These requests often come with a sob story that will play on your emotions in hopes that you’ll ignore the warning signs in an effort to help. Don’t fall for it. The world’s struggles are not all on your shoulders.

Stick to the rules and make sure you’re paid as promised with no goofy back and forth stuff. Selling stuff online can be a lucrative income source, especially if you’ve got a house full of unused stuff.

Just be sure to use selling sites and apps the way they are intended and keep a leg up on potential scam artists. This way you’ll maximize your income and make big strides toward reaching all of your financial goals and dreams.

Summary

As you can, there are so many options for you to sell your stuff online. Selling apps for both iOs and Android are picking up in popularity and people are looking beyond just eBay and Craigslist to buy your stuff. You can literally sell anything online. From cars, to selling refrigerators, to clothes and even old phones, you have money sitting in your house in the form of “stuff”.

But, if are still looking to make money beyond selling, then check out the top side hustle ideas.

What have you used to sell stuff online?

The Best Work From Home Jobs For Busy Moms https://www.moneypeach.com/legitimate-work-from-home-jobs/ https://www.moneypeach.com/legitimate-work-from-home-jobs/#comments Fri, 28 Aug 2020 07:15:00 +0000 https://www.moneypeach.com/?p=7178 I get it — you are a mom which means you’re extremely busy. But, you also desire to make a little (or a lot) of money from home and don’t know where to start.

Believe it or not, the work-from-home industry is more popular than ever before. In fact, a recent study by Flexjobs of 3,000 moms found that 65% of them either need or would like to work from home. If that is you, here is my latest list of the most legitimate work from home jobs for moms.

The Higher Paying Work From Jobs For Moms

I recently added these two to the list because I personally know many moms having success as both virtual assistants and freelance writers.

Earn up to $50/hour as a Virtual Assistant

legitimate work from home jobsMany small businesses need help but don’t want to bring on staff to their location, so instead they turn to virtual support. This type of support could be anything from responding to and checking email, scheduling meetings, booking travel arrangements, updating social media content — really anything you can do online.

The starting pay for virtual assistants is really good — $15 – $50 per hour.

If you’re ready to get started right away, I would head on over to a site like Upwork — a marketplace for businesses looking for virtual assistants.

But, if you want to increase your hourly rate as a virtual assistant, I would avoid the marketplace and offer your services as your own business. I would highly recommend getting started with Kayla Sloan’s 10k VA program to learn how to become and market yourself as a virtual assistant (VA).

Earn Money as a Freelance Writer

I have a good friend, Holly Johnson, that left her job in corporate America to pursue her passion — freelance writing. As a mother of two young daughters, she generates income as a freelance writer.

Now, of course she didn’t start off making a ton of money, but over time she created strategies to land more writing jobs, to find out what clients actually want in a writer, and how to be as efficient and profitable as possible.

It won’t happen overnight, but after six years as a freelance writer, Holly makes $225,000+ per year and if you follow her online you’ll notice something unusual — her family of four travels 20 weeks per year because she can write from anywhere in the world. Holly also writes for some of the largest well-known websites like Condé NasteThe BalanceBankrate and Business Insider.

Now of course I am in no way suggesting you’re going to start as a freelance writer and make six figures. But I do know you can start making a few hundred dollars per month as a freelance writer.

How do I know this?

Today there are over 440 million active blogs. These blogs need to keep putting out content and the majority of these writers work on their terms and their schedule. As a blogger myself, I know so many moms who absolutely love writing and they have found a consistent income stream from freelance writing.

As far as getting started as a freelance writer, I would recommend checking out Holly’s freelance writing course earn real income. Her program isn’t free, but I do know there is a community jobs board inside her program where I have personally hired writers for the Money Peach blog.

Earn $1,000 to $2,000 Per Month Running Facebook Ads

Before you start getting overwhelmed, let me share a little secret with you — Facebook ads are not rocket science.

Right now there are over 7 million businesses advertising on Facebook and they’re spending between $2,400 and $9,600 on Facebook ads each year. Why are they spending so much money on Facebook ads?

Because they work. As a business owner, imagine spending $1,000 and generating $3,000 worth of revenue. And if you could pay someone to run that portion of your business for you, wouldn’t that be a no-brainer?

My friend Bobby Hoyt has created a booming business where he teaches moms how to run Facebook ads from home. If you’re looking to get started with this work-from-home-job, you will have to learn the basics of Facebook ads first. If you know of a program already, great! But if not, I have personally taken Bobby’s program and it’s excellent.

Customer Service or Call Center Jobs

Call center or customer service jobs are likely some of the most popular work-from-home positions available. So many companies find it is much more cost-effective which also makes for happier employees when customer service and call center reps can work at home.

Here are some of the more well-known companies who allow customer service reps to work from home.

Amazon

Yes, the retail giant Amazon does hire work-from-home people as customer service agents. Remote jobs are not available in all areas, but there are often positions in several areas of the United States and around the world.

As a customer service agent you’ll have more job opportunities if you can speak multiple languages as well. When you search the jobs listings quickly you will find opportunities for those who can speak both French and Japanese.

The types of positions and locations they offer will vary, however because Amazon is such a large company there are almost always available jobs to choose from.

Most positions with Amazon pay around $10-$12 per hour. You’ll likely have assigned shift hours they want to you to work as well.

Cruise.com

Cruise.com hires customer service agents, cruise sales agents and online support agents to work from home. Most positions require a minimum of 1 year of cruise industry experience and/or call center experience for applicants.

Also, all positions have sales responsibilities for selling insurance from their insurance partner, Allianz. Training for selling the insurance is provided. If you like travel and like selling, this could be a good choice for you.

Working Solutions

Working Solutions hires customer service agents to work from home. In order to qualify and be assessed for hire you need an up-to-date computer, high speed Internet connection, landline telephone, a desire to succeed and a commitment to hard work.

The site says that assessments for potential agents could take up to an hour and should be completed from the computer you plan on working from.

Data Entry/Transcriptionist Jobs

Not the customer service agent type?

Good news! There are still legitimate work-from-home jobs available with little or no customer contact. Instead, you’ll be doing data entry work or transcriptionist (either medical or non-medical) work from home. Here are some of the best job opportunities in those areas.

Rev.com

Another great work-from-home-job is transcribing audio or video into captions. I personally have hired many people from Rev.com to do all of our captions for our videos and the quality is always great.

Rev.com says you can expect to earn on average $240 per month and you can also get paid weekly via PayPal.

I really love this side hustle because you can do this from home, on your own time, and work as much as you would like.

AccuTran Global

AccuTran Global hires transcriptionists to work from home.

Qualifications include being able to type at least 60 words per minute (WPM), being a good listener and having a thorough knowledge of the English language and proper grammar.

Applicants will be given a transcription test and do need to have a computer that is less than four years old.

Note: Their work is largely seasonal and you’ll have to be available when they need you.

DionData Solutions

DionData Solutions hires data entry workers to work from home. Qualified applicants must type at least 60 words per minute, have sufficient computer skills including attaching, downloading and uploading documents, and be committed to completing tasks in a timely manner as required by each job.

You must also have excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to work efficiently with minimal supervision.

Clickworker

Clickworker hires people to perform a variety of jobs such as translation, research and data processing. Each worker is allowed to choose which jobs they want to take from the available pool of tasks.

Most of the jobs are smaller and can be done quickly if you are efficient. Being efficient will raise your rate of pay since you are paid by the job and not on an hourly basis.

Appen

Appen hires work-from-home people for transcription and other types of jobs. This is a global company that hires people from around the world.

You can search through Appen’s available jobs here. Remember to look for other types of jobs that are remote too, and not just transcription jobs so you can find the best job opportunity for you. Knowing multiple languages is a plus since they service clients worldwide.

Birch Creek Communications

Birch Creek Communications hires transcriptionists (corporate transcriptionists, not legal or medical) to work from home. They don’t provide any training – you need to learn the trade on your own if you don’t know it already.

Online Tutoring Jobs

Tutoring online is another great way you can make money working from home. Most online tutoring jobs are independent contractor positions and not employee positions.

If you have skills in a particular school subject or would like to help people learn a second language, this could be a great work opportunity for you.

Here are some of the more popular online tutoring companies that hire work-from-home tutors.

VIP KID

VIP KID focuses solely on teaching children in China to speak English fluently. To become a tutor with them you don’t need to know Chinese but it can help.

They supply the curriculum for you and you teach directly from the teaching manuals the company provides. There’s no communication with parents (corporate handles that) and you teach in a one-on-one setting so your student has your undivided attention.

As a tutor for VIP KID you enter your availability for tutoring sessions one month in advance and then the company schedules students for you based on your availability.

You’ll get at least 24 hours advance notice when you have a tutoring session coming up. This way you have time to prepare and go over your training materials for that lesson.

As you can see, there are a few different options and several companies that will hire people to work from home.

It’s important when researching work-from-home jobs that you know the available types of employment statuses before you decide who you want to work from home for.

There are two general options: working as a W-2 employee where your paycheck is given out with taxes and other deductions taken out ahead of time, or working as an independent contractor where you are given your full earnings and must pay taxes on your own.

Here’s a little more information about each option so you can decide which one is best for you.

Chegg

Chegg hires tutors to help middle and high school students, college students and working professionals. When you sign up as a tutor you select your best subjects and Chegg will match you with potential students. You as a tutor can accept which students you’d like to work with.

You can tutor from anywhere with an Internet connection. Plus, Chegg will pay you weekly when you work as a tutor for them.

Tutor.Com

Tutor.com hires tutors to teach children as young as Kindergarten age all the way through college and beyond. They even have tutoring positions available for adult learners who need tutoring services.

To qualify to tutor with them, you need to submit an application, pass a subject exam, do a mock tutoring session and pass a background check.

You can tutor from anywhere and set your own schedule as you’re available. Tutors are paid regularly.

Work from Home as an Employee

Many companies these days will hire direct employees to work from home. As a direct employee you’ll get a regular paycheck, taxes, benefits and other costs taken from that paycheck, and a W-2 at the end of the year.

You’ll likely have required hours you need to work, company training manuals to peruse and a boss that will supervise you.

Work from Home as an Independent Contractor

If you work for yourself from home you’ll handle things a bit differently. First, you’ll likely get to decide the hours you work and your rate of pay. Second, you can choose the types of work you’ll do.

However, any income you make will be treated as business income. You’ll get your money directly from the customer with no taxes taken out. At the end of the year you’ll get a 1099 or similar tax form from each client.

It will be your responsibility to keep track of your income, your expenses and to pay taxes accordingly.

There’s no right or wrong answer as to which type of work-from-home income you choose. But, it is important to know the difference between the two.

Depending on the type of work-at-home jobs you choose, you can control how much money you make. It could be a few hundred dollars a year ,or even tens of thousands of dollars a year.

Working from home isn’t for everyone. However, if you’re a self-starter, willing to learn new things, and committed to being disciplined and organized, a work-from-home job might be the perfect way for you to increase your income or have a career from the comfort of your own home.

Maybe You Would Rather Pick Up a Side Hustle?

If none of these options sounds like something you’d be interested in, we do have a list of the the best side hustles to start generating income. We broke down all side hustles into eight different categories for you to choose from: online, extremely passive, some skill required, physical labor, very unique, driving, bizarre and just plain simple.

The 7 Best Ways to Sell Your Used Car https://www.moneypeach.com/what-is-the-best-way-to-sell-my-used-car/ https://www.moneypeach.com/what-is-the-best-way-to-sell-my-used-car/#comments Fri, 24 Jul 2020 07:30:00 +0000 https://www.moneypeach.com/?p=3758 Wondering what is the best way to sell your used car?

Of course there are other options such as selling to a dealer or trading it it, but then you’re sharing that sale with that third party. You will always get the most money for your used car is you sell it yourself.

With that said, selling a car on your own can be confusing, overwhelming, and even a little scary. Therefore, before you decide to sell your car, here are 7 easy-to-follow steps to make sure you’re ready to sell the car, the process is as smooth as possible, and both you and the buyer are happy with the outcome.

The Best Way to Sell Your Used Car

The biggest mistake people make is rushing the process of selling their car. When this happens, they often sell at the lower end and the buyer will get the best deal. However, if you are willing to take the extra minute to get your car ready for sale, the difference could be hundreds to thousands of dollars.

Here are the steps recommended by those who buy and sell cars professionally or as a lucrative side hustle.

Step 1: Know the Market and Price Your Car

Before you decide to sell your car, you first need to find out what your current make and model is selling for. There is a difference between what your car may be valued at and what the car is actually selling for. This doesn’t necessarily mean the car is selling for less than the reported value, but rather has to do with how much of a demand there is for your current vehicle. If there are a lot of people wanting that car, it will drive your selling price above the current value! If no one wants your car (a Pinto) then your car is only going to sell below what the current value is set at.

The best places to check the value for your car are sites like Kelley Blue Book, Craigslist, AutoTrader, Edmunds, and NADA Guides.

One thing to keep in mind when pricing your car, is to determine how fast you would like to sell it. Depending on the reason you’re selling your car will have an effect on the price of the car.

Example:

You are currently paying a $500 car payment and need to get rid of your car as soon as possible to free up money inside your budget. The current make and model of your car is selling between $19,000 and $20,000.

You could price it on the high end and possibly make the sale within the first 1 -2 months, keeping in mind you’re making a $500 car payment each month. Or, you could price it on the low end and get rid of the car right now and save yourself from making another monthly payment.

Before you price your car, ask yourself this:

“How fast do I need to sell this car?”

Your answer will determine the price.

selling your car

Step 2 – Get the Title Ready

If you’re selling the car, you either own the car and have the title, or the bank has a lien on your vehicle and you’ll need to release the title to the new buyer.

Selling the car without a lien on the vehicle

A lien simply means a financial institution or an individual owns the rights to your car’s title. If you own the car without a lien, then the process is very simple.

First, you will want to have the title ready for the buyer once you receive payment.

Depending on the state you live in, you may need to have the title notarized in order for the transaction to be valid. To find out, simply search your state’s DMV (or MVD) site or call the motor vehicle department in your state.

Once you (the seller) have signed over the back of the title and recorded the current odometer reading on the title, the buyer now has taken ownership of the vehicle. This means you have received and verified payment and the new owner is free to drive away in your sold car.

Selling the car WITH a lien on the vehicle

If are selling your car with a current lien, there are a few more steps in the process.

First you will want to find out what the current payoff amount is on your vehicle. This amount will allow you to identify if you can sell the car for more than you owe on the lien, or the opposite, meaning you are upside down in your current car loan.

If you can sell the car for more than you owe on the lien, then your best bet is to finalize the sale of the vehicle at the bank where you have your current auto loan. The bank can collect payment from the new buyer, release you from the loan, and then transfer the title over to the new buyer.

Once the transaction is completed, you will then need to immediately notify the MVD of the sale of your car to protect you from any fishy business the new owner is involved in.

What if my bank is out of state?

This is very common and shouldn’t be a problem at all. Simply get on the phone and ask your out-of-state bank what your best option is. Many times, the out-of-state bank will use an escrow service to collect payment from the new buyer, transfer the title to new buyer, and send you a check if there is an amount owed.

After the Sale

After the sale is complete, you will then need to immediately declare a sold notice through your state’s DMV (you should be able to do this online in most states). This protects you just in case the new buyer gets in an accident, is ticketed, or has any other criminal activity involving your former vehicle.

Lastly, depending on the state you live in, you may be subject to a refund on your paid registration for the car you just sold. If your state doesn’t allow for the registration to transfer to the new owner, you will want to request a refund as soon as possible, usually within 30 days of selling your car.

Step 3 – Get Your Car Ready for Sale

Most likely you found dozens of your make and model for sale when you were searching for your car’s current sale price. With that said, make sure your car looks better than what you are seeing currently for sale

Clean Your Car (Really Good)

I have a friend in the car business and he estimates a used car will sell for 10% more if the car is immaculate and well-maintained versus an ordinary looking car for sale.

If you don’t think you can do an amazing job on cleaning your own car, then I would highly recommend having your car detailed for $150 – $200. You want the car to shine on the outside, you want the engine to look brand new, and you want the tires to sparkle when the potential buyer pulls up.

When the buyer takes your car for a test drive, the interior shouldn’t smell like you, it should smell like heaven! The time or money you spend getting your car ready for sale will be money back in your pocket.

Maintenance Records

A car will always sell better when it is well-maintained with proof of maintenance records. Show the potential buyer how often the oil was changed, any major repairs, and the mileage on the tires. Also, if there was a major repair, you need to be upfront with the buyer and re-assure them with proof the repair was done properly.

Get the CarFax

You can get a CarFax for $40 and this just helps ease the wonder of the buyer when it comes to accidents or any major repairs.

Scam Alert! Please be careful and only use reputable vehicle history report scams. The FTC recommends only three sites (with CarFax being one of them) that are safe for you to use. Many scammers are creating fake websites and asking you to get a vehicle history report from these websites. As soon as you pay them, the scammer disappears.

Step 4 – Advertise, Advertise, Advertise

There are a ton of options for advertising your car and you should be taking advantage of at least a few of them.

  • Sign on Car – This is simple, old fashioned, but still very effective.
  • Facebook Marketplace – Facebook will even give you a range your car should sell for
  • OfferUp – One of the safest ways to sell anything online and avoid scammers.
  • Craigslist – The listing fee is only $5 and will allow you to add up to 12 photos and run your ad for up for 30 days
  • Cars.com – You can list your car for free on Cars.com with a few different upgrade options for $20 – $50 more to add exposure, length, and pictures to your ad.
  • AutoTrader – You’ll get better exposure here, but the cost to post an ad starts at $25 and includes 3 photos for a 30 day listing
  • Ebay Motors – You will get a pretty large exposure here, but I would be careful going this route since Ebay starts at $125

You can also find a list of similar websites to Craigslist that are also great for selling vehicles.

Step 5 – The Perfect Neutral Location

Rather than sell your car from the driveway of your home, it may be a better idea to meet on neutral turf. Choose an area where you know there will be bystanders nearby and try to conduct the sale of your car during normal business hours (selling a car at 3am is a no-no).

My favorite location for meeting a potential buyer is in the grocery store parking lot. Other options could be near a shopping mall, a nearby park, or any place where you and the buyer won’t be there alone.

Step 6 – The Test Drive

Your buyer is going to want to test drive the vehicle, and you should by all means allow them to. However, before you give the thumbs up on the test drive, you’ll want to have a few things in place first.

Test Drive it Yourself

Before you have someone else jump in your car for a test drive, you should test drive it yourself. Make sure there is plenty of fuel in the car, the tires are filled up all the way, the lights are all working, and all simple fixes are addressed. The last thing you want is for the buyer to point out any little flaw to help drive your asking price down.

Double Check Your Insurance

In almost all states, your auto insurance covers your vehicle even if someone else is driving it. However, it still wouldn’t hurt to pick up the phone and double check with your insurance agent about your policy and the rules for the state you live in.

Be the Passenger

During the test drive, it is a good idea for you to tag along . This gives you the opportunity to answer any immediate questions the driver may have during the test drive, allows you to further discuss some of the features of your car, and ensures your car won’t drive off and never come back!

Have a Pre-Planned Route

Determine a route in your area that gives the current buyer the opportunity to test drive your car for 10-15 minutes. Have a route planned that will take the buyer through both low and high speeds, and also allow your buyer access to the highway if you live near one. You want to make the test drive as convenient as possible for both you and the driver.

Step 7 – Their Best Offer

The chances are extremely high the buyer is going to come in with a lower offer than your asking price. This is simply part of negotiating and you not only need to be ready for it, but you need to accept it. Don’t take anything personal if you feel the offer is too low and have a number in mind that you aren’t willing to go below.

Tips and Tricks of Negotiating as the Seller

The Silent Pause: If you aren’t comfortable with the offer, simply say “no” and pause……..keep pausing……a little longer……..almost there…….keep going….you get the point. The silence is awkward, but it will cause that price to slowly climb back up into the selling range you’re comfortable with.

The Proactive Rule: Instead of waiting for the buyer to ask you the lowest you’re willing to go, you can simply ask the buyer what’s the most they can go. This puts the ball back in your court and will allow you more time to evaluate if you and the buyer are going to able to come to an agreed-upon price.

The Walk Away Method: If you’re not comfortable agreeing to their offer, you can always use the walk-away (or drive-away) method. The walk-away method will create scarcity with the buyer because it gives the impression the car is off the table and the buyer is missing out.

The Bottom Line

Always tell the truth, even it if may hurt the sale. Of course you want to do whatever you can to sell your car for the most possible, but never do so by deceiving a buyer. What goes around, comes around and the truth is always much easier.

With that said, f there was an accident, you must disclose it. If there was a major repair, you also need to notify the buyer. A good rule of thumb is to treat the buyer as if you were going to live next door to them after you sell them the car. Character matters, especially when selling your car to a complete stranger.

40 Ways to Get Free Amazon Gift Cards https://www.moneypeach.com/free-amazon-gift-cards/ https://www.moneypeach.com/free-amazon-gift-cards/#comments Mon, 13 Jul 2020 19:52:00 +0000 https://www.moneypeach.com/?p=7131

Today we are able to buy just about everything on Amazon. From groceries, to movies, to clothing and even cars, Amazon has everything you will ever need.

Which makes getting free gift cards to Amazon just about as good as cash, right?

So then, how do you truly get free Amazon gift cards?

I know what you’re thinking – nothing in life is truly free. Fair enough, but what if there were companies out there that reward you with Amazon gift cards for extremely simple tasks? Even better, what if there were companies who would pay you in free gift cards to Amazon for doing things you’re already doing?

Personally, we do very well each year with free gift cards from Amazon. In fact, I generated over $4,000 over the past twelve months in Amazon gift cards. And 100% of that went to things we were going to spend cash on anyways.

Now, are you going to read this and start making thousands of dollars in gift cards? Not a chance unless you create a blog like this one and have thousands of readers each month.

But, if you’re looking to make $100 or more dollars every month in free Amazon gift cards, then let me show you how.

We will start off with earning gift cards through taking online surveys and then show you how to

How to Get Free Amazon Gift Cards: Best Online Surveys

One of the easiest ways to get your hands on free gift cards from Amazon is through online survey sites. Most of these sites are similar, however they do differ in how and when you can “cash out” your gift card.

Survey Junkie

free amazon gift cards

My number one choice is going to be Survey Junkie. I love this site because out of all the survey sites, they are by far the most user-friendly.

For every survey you take, you will generate points once completed. A typical survey will pay out 100 – 200 points and once you have 1,000 points, you can cash out for a $10 Amazon Gift Card. With Survey Junkie, every 1,000 points is equivalent to $10.

I also have a full Survey Junkie Review here if you would like to see exactly how it works.

Another reason why I really love Survey Junkie is they go beyond just Amazon gift cards.

In fact, at the moment you can redeem the following gift cards:

  • Groupon
  • iTunes
  • Sephora
  • Target
  • Walmart
  • Starbucks

You can get your gift cards instantly (digital gift card) or you can just get the cash value from the points via PayPal. As you can tell, I am a huge fan of Survey Junkie for a reason.

Swagbucks

free amazon gift cards

Swagbucks is one of the most flexible ways to get free Amazon gift cards because you have several different ways to earn rewards points:

  • Online surveys
  • Free product trials
  • Watching videos
  • Playing games
  • Shopping online
  • Performing web searches

As a new Swaggernaut, you will also have the opportunity to earn a $5 sign-up bonus that you can redeem for hundreds of gift cards including Amazon.

Another reason Swagbucks earns a top spot on this list is the low point requirements. Amazon gift cards are available in denominations as small as $3 during a Swagbucks promotion. With other online sites, you may have to accumulate at least $10 or even $20 in rewards before you can cash out.

We also have an step-by-step review of Swagbucks here to learn more.

Beyond Amazon gift cards, you can also redeem for plenty of other gift cards as well. Here are a few of my favorites:

  • Walmart
  • Fanatics
  • Home Depot
  • Sephora
  • PayPal
  • Starbucks
  • Target
  • Visa Gift Card
  • iTunes

Swagbucks is one of the original survey companies with a Trustpilot rating of 8.3/10.

InboxDollars

free amazon gift cards

Another way to earn Amazon gift cards by doing what you already do online is with InboxDollars. You earn cash rewards for completing surveys, shopping online, testing products, and watching videos or playing games online.

Once your rewards balance reaches $30, you can redeem your balance for an Amazon gift card, cash, or other retail gift cards.

To learn more, here’s an Inbox Dollars breakdown showing all the good and bad before you get started.

Need cash instead of Amazon gift cards? Then you need to start looking for some side hustle ideas.

PrizeRebel

free amazon gift cards

I really love PrizeRebel right now for many reasons. One is that they have been around a long time. In fact, PrizeRebel has paid out over $17 million to over 8 million members since 2007. To say they are one of the pioneers of the online survey space would be an understatement.

They of course have Amazon gift cards to cash out, but they also have over 500 other gift cards to choose from! Usually I will add a list below, but I’ll let you put your imagination to work since there are over 500 places to shop!

Also, the smallest Amazon gift card they offer is only at $2. PrizeRebel can be used by anyone living in the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, and Denmark.

National Consumer Panel

Another way to get Amazon gift cards by scanning receipts is with National Consumer Panel. Once a week, you scan the barcodes of all the items you buy with the smartphone app. If you don’t have a compatible smartphone, National Consumer Panel will send you a handheld scanner.

You can also take online surveys to earn bonus points. As a loyalty bonus, NCP rewards you with more points per scan by becoming a long-term panelist by sharing your purchase history on a regular basis.

You can redeem your points for Amazon gift cards, cash, or merchandise. As an additional bonus, you will also get free cash sweepstakes entries by scanning your barcodes too.

Opinion Outpost

Opinion Outpost is another one of the best online survey sites that lets you redeem your points for the following rewards:

  • Amazon gift cards
  • iTunes gift cards
  • PayPal cash

Another reason to consider joining Opinion Outpost is for their quarterly $10,000 cash prize drawing. You earn a free entry for each survey you complete plus earning rewards points.

Membership to Opinion Outpost is only open to U.S. residents.

MyPoints

MyPoints is the sister site to Swagbucks mentioned earlier in this article. You will get paid to take surveys, play games, watch videos, and shop online. Joining MyPoints in addition to Swagbucks helps ensure you capture the best earning opportunities and point redemption rates as both sites still operate independently of each other.

GlobalTestMarket

GlobalTestMarket is one of the very few surveys sites that lets international panelists take surveys for Amazon gift cards. Since 2016, members have redeemed more than $30 million in rewards by sharing their opinion on consumer brands, restaurants, automobiles, current events, and many other topics.

Ipsos I-Say

Ipsos I-Say is another large, long-standing survey company and I-Say is their online survey site. Users of I-Say can live in the United States, Canada and the U.K.

The great thing about I-Say is you can actually cash out your gift cards starting at a $5 balance.

And, just like most other survey sites, you will earn points for taking online surveys. One hundred points is equivalent to $1, therefore you will need 500 points to claim your first Amazon gift card of $5.

I-Say will also digitally deliver all of your gift cards. And similar to Survey Junkie, Ipsos-iSay will allow you to choose beyond just Amazon gift cards. Here’s just a sample of what other gift cards they have to offer:

  • Home Depot
  • Sephora
  • Gap
  • Banana Republic
  • Old Navy
  • XBOX
  • Target
  • Playstation
  • Walmart
  • Starbucks
  • Visa Gift Card

Free Amazon Gift Cards: For Playing Games

Are you someone who already loves playing games online or from your phone? If so, you may as well get paid in real money or with Amazon gift cards. The ones listed below will pay in Amazon gift cards, but we have a whole list of games that will pay you in cash, cryptocurrency, or other gift card retailers.

Appdown

Do you like to play games on your smartphone? Appdown pays you to try the latest and greatest games, plus you earn bonus points by referring friends and sharing your victories on social media. Membership is open to over 100 countries and Appdown works on Android and iOS devices.

If playing games online is something you love doing, here are the top sites that pay you play games online.

AppNana

Test apps and games on your phone or tablet and earn rewards points (nanas) that can be redeemed for Amazon gift cards or paid apps. The testing opportunities are always changing and you can uninstall the app after the trial period if you don’t like it and still keep your points. AppNana is available for Android and iOS devices.

Many of the other get-paid-to sites only pay you a few points per day to watch videos, but you can earn up to $5 a day–enough to earn a $5 Amazon gift card every day!

Get Free Amazon Gift Cards: For Shopping

If you don’t want to take online surveys, no problem! Did you know you can earn cash back when you shop online? Or, did you realize not only could you be saving tons using some of these apps, but they will also pay you in Amazon Gift Cards for sharing it with others?

Honey App

free amazon gift cards

Honey is my absolute favorite find when it comes to online shopping. Before Honey, I would get to the checkout and then open up another tab and Google “promo codes”. Then I would go back and forth and test dozens of the ones I found to see if they worked or not.

Finally, the Honey App solved that problem for us. Honey is a extension for any major website browser and will automatically scour the internet and test all found promo codes. Once it’s done, it applies the one the saves you the most money!

Here is a full review of the Honey App with screenshots of it in action here.

But what about the free Amazon gift cards, right?

It’s simple: Your friends are going to think you are amazing for showing them this little online shopping hack. For each friend you refer, Honey will pay you $5!

You can then cash out for Amazon gift cards (or other gift cards) in increments of $10 and they are all sent to you digitally.

Ebates

ebates reviews

Ebates is one of the most popular online shopping portals. You can shop online directly with the store, or you can go through the eBates portal to save lots of money in the form of cashback.

What I love about eBates is not only can you save on purchases through Amazon, but you can also be paid out in the form of Amazon gift cards! And remember, it does not cost you a penny extra to shop through the Ebates portal. In fact, they have made it so simple for you by creating an eBates browser extension that will work in all major web browsers.

Ebates also has cash-back for in-store shopping as well. Here is a full rundown of how eBates works and how to make the most of your cashback options.

Shopkick

free amazon gift cards

Shopkick is another free app that will pay you in points for shopping in both stores and online. The points you earn are called “kicks” – hence the name Shopkicks.

Beyond just shopping online or at a store, Shopkick will also rewards you for:

  • Purchasing something with a linked card
  • Purchasing and submit a receipt
  • Just visiting online stores
  • Viewing online products
  • Watching videos

You can start redeeming Amazon gift cards starting at $5.

This one is so easy because I know all of us have receipts. However, before you throw them away, you can use any of these apps below to upload your receipts. And those receipts can be exchanged for free Amazon gift cards!

Ibotta

free amazon gift cards

Ben Franklin once quipped that death and taxes are the only two certainties in life. I think he forgot about the necessity to eat. Without food, we’re as productive as a car with an empty gas tank.

Ibotta can be one of the easiest ways to get free Amazon gift cards because you don’t have to do anything extra besides activating offers and scanning your grocery receipt at any major grocer or discount store like Kroger, Walmart, and Target. You can get cash back on specific brand items and any brand.

My wife and I use Ibotta each time we go to the grocery store and always save at least 50 cents. When your balance reaches $20 you can request payment by PayPal, Venmo, or gift cards. You will automatically earn $10 bonus cash by redeeming your first offer.

Receipt Hog

Receipt Hog has you simply take a picture of your receipt after shopping and send it to them. It can be anything from groceries, to clothes, electronics or even buying gas. After you send them a pic of your receipt, they will reward you with “coins”. Those coins can then be traded in for Amazon gift cards or even cash via Paypal.

Punchcard

Before you throw your paper receipts away, take a picture of it with the Punchcard app. You will earn rewards points that can be redeemed for Amazon gift cards. For every six receipts you scan, you get a free spin on the prize wheel to win a bonus reward.

Gce during commercial breaks and the regular programming.

Get Free Amazon Gift Cards: From Other Gift Cards?

Yes, there are sites out there that will buy up your old gift cards you’re not using and pay you in Amazon Gift cards. If you have a gift card from somewhere you know you will never use, you may as well “cash” them in for one from Amazon.

By buying gift cards on Gift Card Granny and reading Granny’s newsletter, you earn rewards points that can be redeemed for free gift cards. Even if you don’t have enough points for a gift card yet, you can still buy Amazon gift cards at a discount to save a few dollars.

Beyond just Amazon gift cards, you can sell your unwanted gift cards or purchase gift cards for a huge discount. Recently, I sold my unwanted gift cards I no longer wanted and found gift cards to my favorite restaurant at a 55% discount.

This idea takes some additional hustle but is one of the few ways to earn continual income. It only takes 15 minutes to create a blog and earn Amazon gift cards indefinitely as people visit your website to find answers to their questions.

Amazon Mechanical Turk

Amazon Mechanical Turk is Amazon’s online survey and micro-task site with academic studies, data entry, audio transcription, and internet research jobs. Most tasks only take a few minutes to complete and you can get paid via direct bank deposit or Amazon gift cards. You must be a U.S. citizen at least 18 years old to join.

Toluna is another large paid survey community that lets you take surveys, test products, and interact with other Toluna community members to earn rewards points. With American Consumer Opinion you can answer surveys, test products and new advertising, and participate in focus groups to earn points you can redeem for Amazon gift cards. The most lucrative surveys pay up to $50 and most surveys only take 10 minutes to complete. Questions You Probably Have

Are Amazon Gift Cards the Best Reward?

Since you can buy just about anything on Amazon, a gift card can be easier to redeem than PayPal cash or other gift cards. Chances are Amazon is your #1 choice for online shopping. Sometimes, you get a redemption bonus by getting a gift card instead of cash!

While you can spend PayPal cash virtually anywhere online, you can skip a step in the redemption process by transferring the money from your PayPal account to your bank account before you have enough money to cover an Amazon purchase. As soon as you receive your Amazon gift code, you can redeem it on Amazon and the money is in your Amazon account ready to spend.

Who Can Get Free Amazon Gift Cards?

Each rewards program has different membership requirements. All of these recommendations are available to U.S. residents; certain programs only offer Amazon gift cards to U.S. residents and only offer to cash payments to international participants.

You might also have to be at least 18 years old to join, but many of these recommendations also let teens at least 13 years old join with parental consent.

How Long Did It Take to Earn a Gift Card?

Most activities only take 15 minutes or less. Some apps work in the background and reward you for your activity with no additional effort required after you sign-up and install their app on your computer, phone, or tablet.

Can I Join More Than One Platform?

Yes, and I recommend it. So many of the ways mentioned above involve already things you’re doing. I’m sure you can scan a few receipts and I am positive you have shopped online. I bet if you had an extra hour per week you could take an online survey. The more things you try, the more things you can buy again on Amazon.

Are Online Surveys the Best Way to Get Amazon Gift Cards?

That answer depends on what you enjoy doing. Online surveys are the most common way to earn gift cards because you only need 10 to 15 minutes at a time, but they aren’t the only way. As you can tell from this list, it’s possible to earn gift cards for doing anything you already do on a regular basis. You need to find the tasks that you enjoy most and pursue them. After that, join the website with the highest payout per task or best redemption options to maximize your effort.

What is the Smallest Available Gift Card Amount?

Some programs offer Amazon gift cards as small as $1, but others can be as high as $25. The average minimum reward amount for most programs is $5, and you usually don’t get a discount for “banking” up you points for a higher award amount. In other words, you will pay 500 points for a $5 card and 2,500 points for a $25 card; not 2,000 points for a $25 card.

Personally, I prefer using platforms with smaller balance amounts because it means I can cash out sooner and maintain a constant momentum of getting a gift card on a regular basis! If you don’t frequently visit a website, it can take almost a year to get a $25 gift card, and you’re more likely to give up and not earn anything at all.

How Are Amazon Gift Cards Delivered?

Most gift cards are digitally delivered via email within 24 hours of your request. Some websites still have the option to mail your gift card if you prefer a physical gift card instead.

The Takeaway: This Isn’t Really Hard Is It?

As you can see, there are so many different ways to get free gift cards to Amazon. Instead of doing just one thing, you should try a mixture of them to maximize your opportunities.

Start by taking a survey while you’re waiting at the doctor’s office. Then shop online or in-store through one of the portals mentioned above. After shopping, take a picture of your receipt to earn even more gift cards and then reload your gift card to earn even more.

Simply take a look at the list above and ask yourself, what am I already doing?

Next, just add in some of the things mentioned above to your daily routine and before you know it you’ll have a few hundred dollars worth of free Amazon gift cards!

Best Places Locally and Online to Sell Your Old Phones https://www.moneypeach.com/best-places-to-sell-used-cell-phones/ https://www.moneypeach.com/best-places-to-sell-used-cell-phones/#comments Sun, 31 May 2020 00:00:00 +0000 https://www.moneypeach.com/?p=7343 Depending on the type and model of phone you have to sell, and the condition it’s in, you might be able to get more than you thought you would.

There are several sites that will allow you to sell used cell phones, either directly to the company, or to a private party or company as a third party buyer.

Here are the details on some of the most popular places you can sell your used cell phones.

Best Places to Sell Phones Online

To start, the best places to sell phones is going to be online. There are a ton of great places to choose from, but if you want to make this quick and simple; we recommend BuybackBoss to start.

1. BuybackBoss

BuybackBoss is our first choice when it comes to selling your old phone online. For starters, they guarantee to give you the highest price for your device. They also have a Trustpilot rating of 4.8 out 5.

If you find somewhere online that offers you a better price, you can simply send them an email (explanation on their website) with a link to the higher offer. Once they see the better offer, they will update your offer to beat their competitors and notify you once it’s ready to go.

They have three simple steps when it comes to selling your old phone.

First you will head over to their site and get a quote in 30 seconds or less. Next, you will ship your used phone for free and even track your shipment as well. Once your item is shipped, you get the choice of getting paid via check or through PayPal.

Here’s a screenshot of me selling one of our old iPhone X phones with 64GB memory in mint condition (thanks to an Otterbox).

best places to sell phones

I did compare this price to another site and was offered only $430 for the same phone. It definitely pays to shop your phone around on at least 2-3 sites.

What should you do with that old cell phone you have when you upgrade to a newer one? Don’t discount its value before you check out what you might be able to get by selling it.

2. OCBuyback

OCBuyback is another great place to sell your Apple, Google or Samsung phone. They have made it extremely simple to get started.

First, click on “sell cell phone” and then click on the type of phone you are selling.

Next click on the model of your phone and the carrier the device is linked to (Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, etc.). Then click on the storage capacity for your phone. If you don’t know the capacity, this can be found in the “About” section inside your phone’s settings.

You will be also be asked for the condition of your phone. My recommendation is to be 100% honest so the process for you getting cash is as quick as possible.

Once all these are metrics are entered in, you will instantly be given a price to sell your phone and a button that says “Click to Sell Now”.

Once you send your phone (shipping paid for by OCBuyback), you can request a check in the mail (1-3 days) or you can elect to get paid instantly using PayPal.

Here is an actual screenshot of me selling my own iPhone 7 in good condition with 128GB storage.

best places to sell phones

Note: You will notice it says “Sell Phone in Brea, CA”. This is doesn’t mean you must live in California – this is just where your used phone is being sold to.

3. Swappa

Swappa is another great platform to sell your old phones and countless other electronics. They currently have a TrustPilot score of 4.9 out of 5, which is one of the highest scores for sites like these.

The nice thing with Swappa is they don’t take a fee to sell your old phone on their site. How it works is you set your bid on their platform and it goes out to the Swappa community to either accept your bid or give you a counteroffer. Once you come to an agreement on your sale price, you are responsible for shipment, including paying for shipping.

Your payment will come to you securely via PayPal. Always make sure to accept and receive payment before you send your phone in the mail.

4. Deculttr

Decluttr is a close third choice when it comes to selling your old phone. They have paid out over $300 million to over 6 million people and have Trustpilot rating of 4.6 out of 5.

Sell on Decluttr Now

How it works:

Very similar to BuybackBoss, but they do have an updated app and offer two more payment options beyond PayPal and check. They can pay via direct deposit or even a donation to a charity.

Decluttr has definitely been one of the pioneers when it comes to selling your old phone, however they don’t guarantee the highest price which is why we put them at #2.

sell used cell phones5. Amazon & Amazon Trade-In Program

With Amazon you can sell your phone two different ways. You can use Amazon’s Trade-In program and get an Amazon gift card for your phone, or you can sell your phone directly on the site and get cash from a third party buyer.

If you’re okay with having an Amazon Gift Card for your phone instead of cash, the trade-in program could be the way to go, although you may not get as much money for your phone since Amazon will still need to make a profit by reselling it.

When I checked my old Moto G phone on Amazon’s trade-in site, they were paying “up to” $6.80 for similar trade in models.

However, when I searched “used Moto G phones” on the traditional Amazon shopping site, I found I would pay between $30 and $60 for a used one. Even after listing and selling fees you’ll likely get more money selling your phone to a third party when you use Amazon.

The Good: Large audience and everyone uses an Amazon Gift Card.

The Bad: You may not get as much for your old phone.

6. Gazelle

Gazelle buys old cell phones directly from private party sellers for the purpose of reselling them. It’s easy to sell through Gazelle – no waiting for someone to take your offer or meeting up with them.

You just hit the “sell” button on the site, enter your phone make and model and they’ll give you an offer price. After you accept their offer price, Gazelle will send you a free shipping label and then pay you via an Amazon gift card, via PayPal or they’ll send you a check.

Also, keep in mind Gazelle does not buy all phone models nor do they buy phones tied to all carriers. You’ll have to check their site for specific info on which types of phones they buy.

The Good: Extremely quick, completely free to sell and multiple options for payout.

The Bad: Not all phone models will be bought back from you.

7. eBay

You probably already know at least a little bit about how eBay works. A few notes about selling your used cell phone on eBay:

  • Be sure to include a buffer for listing and selling fees in as you price your phone
  • Use other similar sold phones and listings when determining a phone price point
  • Decide ahead of time whether or not you’ll offer free shipping (it often makes an attractive lure for potential buyers) and then consider that cost as you choose your listing price as well

The Good: Large audience and opportunity to sell back to the retailer for higher profit.

The Bad: Communicating with potential buyers, creating your listing and then shipping your item.

8. Gadget Gobbler

Gadget Gobbler works similarly to sites like Gazelle: you get a quote for your phone, get a free shipping label once you’ve accepted their offer, and get paid from them after you send in your phone and they examine it.

One difference between Gadget Gobbler and Gazelle is that Gadget Gobbler pays via PayPal or a check only – no Amazon gift card option available. But personally, I’d prefer cash anyway. 🙂

Again, remember when you’re selling to companies that plan on reselling your phone for a profit that you’ll probably get less for the phone, although the process is super easy and streamlined compared to trying to sell it to a private party.

The Good: Payout is via a check or PayPal and a very simple selling process.

The Bad: You may not get as much for your phone.

9. Nextworth

Nextworth will also make an offer for your phone and send you a prepaid shipping label. After you accept their offer and ship your phone, they’ll pay you in the form of a PayPal deposit or they’ll mail you a check.

One thing to note about many of the companies that buy back your phone directly is they will analyze your phone once they receive it to be sure it matches the condition you said it was in when you got your offer.

If your phone is in worse condition than you stated, you may get less than originally agreed upon. Nextworth has a cool feature in that they’ll forgive any price differences (i.e. if the phone is worth less than what you were initially offered due to it being in worse condition) up to $10 and pay you as promised anyway.

That’s a feature you won’t find very often with other companies.

The Good: They send prepaid shipping label and payment via PayPal or check.

The Bad: You may get less than what you had originally agreed upon.

10. Wirefly

Wirefly is a cell phone and cell phone service retailer that pays you cash when you send in your used cell phone.

As with most companies, you need to state the condition of your phone and then send it in to be evaluated. Once they determine it’s in the condition you stated it is, they’ll pay you cash via Paypal, or you have a few other options as well.

The Good: Multiple forms of payment including cash.

The Bad: Not as fast as other selling sites.

11. SellBroke

SellBroke will buy your used cell phones (and other electronic items) even if they no longer work. As with most companies, you need to enter the description of your item with them, and they’ll give you a quote.

Once you’ve accepted their offer they’ll send you a prepaid shipping label and you can send in your item for evaluation.

Payment is made via PayPal or by check – whichever you prefer.

The Good: They may also buyback other used electronics from you as well.

The Bad: You may not get as much for your used electronics as you could elsewhere.

12. Gadget Salvation

Gadget Salvation works the same as many other companies: get a quote for your phone, a free shipping label if you agree to the quote, and they’ll pay you after they receive and assess your device.

These guys will pay you via PayPal, Venmo or Chase QuickPay.

The Good: If you find a better price for your phone from a qualifying competitor, Gadget Salvation will pay you that price plus 5% more.

The Bad: You may not get as much as you could private party.

13. MaxBack

MaxBack will quote you for your cell phone and send you a prepaid shipping label like the others. However, they offer one important difference: they’ll guarantee your quote for up to 30 days.

Prices in the world of used electronics change rapidly, so this could be a great incentive to use MaxBack as opposed to a company that won’t give a 30-day guarantee.

Remember though that all quotes are subject to verification of the phone’s condition as stated when the quote was given. MaxBack will pay you via PayPal or they’ll send you a check.

The Good: They will guarantee your quote for up to 30 days and multiple ways to get paid out.

The Bad: The cost of the convenience with MaxBack may eat into your profit.

Best Places to Sell Phones Near You

I’m sharing a variety of different avenues here for selling your old cell phone. Each works a bit differently so be sure to read the fine print so you know what you’re required to give – and how much money you’ll get – when you sell your phone.

Although we believe the best place to sell phones is always going to be online, some of you are still a little old school. If you don’t mind taking a drive to a storefront or kiosk, here are some of the best places you sell your phones near you.

14. EcoATM

EcoATM has kiosks across the country where you can deposit your old cell phone, have evaluated and get cash on the spot.

There are over 2,700 EcoATM kiosks across the country, according to the company’s website. EcoATM also takes steps to help ensure a phone can’t be stolen and deposited into a kiosk.

You need to submit a valid state ID if you’re going to deposit a phone into an EcoATM kiosk, and they will also take steps to prevent misuse of the information on your old phone as well.

This could be a good option if you want cash fast.  Also, if you decide you don’t want to accept their price, they’ll give you your phone back.

The Good: The fastest way to get cash for used phone if kiosk near you.

The Bad: You probably won’t be getting top dollar for your used phone.

15. Craigslist

Craigslist (or similar sites) are also popular venues for selling your used cell phone. You can probably get more for your phone if you sell it on Craigslist than you would by selling to a vendor – provided you are selling directly to a private party that wants to keep the phone for themselves.

Some private parties on Craigslist do buy used cell phones for the purpose of reselling them, which could potentially reduce your profit. However if you sell to someone wishing to keep and use the phone, you will likely get more money.

Search other similar listings on Craigslist to give you an idea of how much you should ask for your phone, and have a bottom-line dollar amount you’ll accept before you post your listing so that you’ll be prepared to haggle.

The Good: You will likely get the most money using Craigslist.

The Bad: The hassle factor of meeting up to sell your item is higher.

16. Walmart Trade-In Program

Like Amazon and others, Walmart will also buy your used cell phone, most often for the purpose of refurbishing and re-selling it.

After they make you an offer – and you accept their offer – they’ll send you a free shipping label with which to send the phone in. In return you’ll get a Walmart eGift card.

Could be a good choice if you like to shop at Walmart, but don’t expect to get a large offer for your phone, especially if it’s an older one.

The Good: Walmart does it all for you.

The Bad: Payment is limited to Walmart gift card.

17. BestBuy

With the Best Buy Trade-in Program you can get a Best Buy gift card for your used cell phone if you trade it in.

The main difference I could find between the Best Buy trade-in program and some of the others is that there are a few items Best Buy will only let you trade if you purchased the item at Best Buy and still have the receipt.

This rule seems to apply to local restrictions in some states/cities and not to Best Buy as a whole, according to their website.

The Good: Very fast and easy and great for BestBuy shoppers.

The Bad: Some phones will only be accepted if they were purchased at BestBuy and you have the receipt.

18. Target Trade-In Program

Target’s trade-in program works similarly to Walmart’s. You search your device on their website to get an offer. After you accept the offer you send it to them via a prepaid shipping label.

After they receive and assess your device, you’re sent a Target gift card for the agreed-upon amount – provided the phone is in the shape you said it was. Then you’re off to shop!

Again, this could be a good choice if you shop at Target frequently, but if you want actual cash for your phone you’ll want to choose another option.

The Good: Very fast and easy and great for Target shoppers.

The Bad: You’re limited to a Target gift card instead of a cash.

19. Gamestop

Gamestop also accepts cell phones for trade-in through their trade-in program. One different thing about Gamestop is that they’ll give you an option of either taking store credit or a cash payout.

Keep in mind you will receive more for your phone if you choose store credit than you would if you chose a cash payout.

The Good: Great for Gamestop shoppers and they also offer cash payout.

The Bad: You may not get as much for your phone as if you sold it private party.

20. Facebook Buy and Sell Groups

You could try Facebook to sell your used cell phone. There are buy and sell groups that specifically promote cell phone sales, or you could just try and sell yours on a buy and sell group in your area, which would probably be the easiest route.

The nice thing about Facebook is you won’t pay any listing or sale fees, and you have the potential to reach a larger audience right in your local area.

The Good: Free to list your phone which results in higher profit.

The Bad: There is the hassle factor of selling your phone private party.

Other Options to Sell Used Phone

21. GizMogul

GizMogul promises “free shipping, fast payments, highest payout guaranteed” on their website. It sure wouldn’t hurt to at least get a quote from them for your device with those kinds of promises.

Like most companies they’ll send you a free shipping label, and they pay via PayPal (or they’ll send you a check) once they’ve verified the condition of your phone.

The Good: They promise highest payouts if you sell to them.

The Bad: Nothing that stands out to us.

22. YouRenew

YouRenew will buy your old cell phone and other electronic items as well. Simply search your device, get the offer, accept the offer, ship your item (they’ll give you a free shipping label from UPS), and they’ll pay you once they evaluate your phone.

From what I could tell, YouRenew pays only via check, however. This could leave you having to wait for your money via snail mail time.

The Good: They will also buy back old electronics in addition to your phone.

The Bad: They only payout via check.

23. uSell

uSell has paid out over $46 million to people who’ve sent in their used cell phones to their company. Apparently they’re doing something right.

One cool thing about uSell is that they’ll send you an entire free shipping kit – box included – if you sell your phone to them.

And they’ll pay via check or via PayPal, which means you can get your money faster.

The Good: They have an incredible track record and have been around a while.

The Bad: Nothing that stands out to us.

24. Buy Back World

Buy Back World will also send you a free shipping kit if you choose to sell your used cell phone to them.

They pay in a number of different ways:

  • Paypal
  • Direct deposit to your bank account
  • Prepaid debit card
  • Gift card for Buy Back World

If you choose to take the gift card for Buy Back World, they’ll add an extra 5% onto your offer price.

The Good: You can get an additional 5% if you take the gift card and they have direct deposit to your checking account.

The Bad: Not as quick as some of the other sites from what we can see.

25. Green Buyback

Green Buyback promises to process your used cell phone payment faster than anyone else in the industry. If you’re looking for money super fast, this could be the way to go.

Their process is the same as most other companies: choose your phone, get your quote, ship it, have it assessed and get your cash.

The Good: Promises to be the fastest process against their competitors.

The Bad: Nothing that stands out to us.

26. ItsWorthMore

ItsWorthMore buys many models of cell phones, and other electronic items as well. After you accept your quote they’ll send you a free shipping label, and they’ll pay you via PayPal or check.

They promise to pay within 72 hours of receiving your phone or other electronic item.

The Good: Promises to be the fastest process against their competitors.

The Bad: You will have to wait up to 72 hours for payment.

Other Places Worth Mentioning

27. Itemcycle.com

Itemcycle only buys used Apple and Mac products, so if you have a used iPhone you want to sell you could potentially check out these guys.

They’ll send you a free prepaid shipping label (sounds like you’ll have to find your own box) and will pay via PayPal or via a check.

The Good: They will payout via PayPal or check.

The Bad: They only buy Apple and Mac products.

28. iPhone Antidote

iPhone Antidote, you can probably guess, only buys used iPhones. Why? Probably because they generally sell for more on the used market.

They’ll send you a prepaid shipping kit like uSell does, with a box included. They pay via a check or via PayPal, and they promise not to lower the offer price for your phone provided you’ve chosen the correct model and condition.

The Good: You can get paid out via PayPal or a check in the mail.

The Bad: They only buy back used iPhones.

29. Your Wireless Carrier

One place to check to sell your used phone is directly with your Wireless carrier. Although not all wireless carriers will buy back your phone, many will. Here is a list of some wireless carriers that may consider buying back your used phone:

  • AT&T
  • Verizon
  • T-Mobile

Check directly with your carrier for more information on selling your used cell phone to them.

The Good: You already know and trust your own carrier.

The Bad: Not all carriers with buyback your old phones.

Summary

Buyback Boss is where I would start with selling your phone since they guarantee the best payout for your used phone. After that, compare with OCBuyback and Decluttr to make sure you’re getting the largest amount of cash. By taking the few extra minutes to compare the sites, you’re going to be adding that extra spending money in your pocket.

Even if it takes you 10 minutes to compare the sites, that 10 minutes could add up an extra $20-$50!

However, if don’t mind the hassle or someone meeting you in person to pickup your sold phone, then sites like Craigslist and Offerup may get you a bigger payout.

But, if you’re looking to simply get rid of the phone fast and easy, I would recommend choosing one of the sites listed above that does all the groundwork for you. Not sure which site is going to be the best option? Then I would choose based on how they compensate you or what they compensate you with (cash, Paypal, gift card, store credit, etc.)

Lastly, don’t forget to clear your personal information out of your old phone.

Have you sold your old cell phones to any of these companies? Or have you had luck selling on other websites? If so, we’d love to hear about your experience.

Simply drop a comment below and tell us about your experience (good or bad) with selling your old phone.
